Arcelus, J., Whight, D., Langham, C. L., Baggott, J., McGrain, L., Meadows, L., o.a. (2009). A case series evaluation of a modified version of interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT) for the treatmentof bulimic eating disorders: A pilot study. This may suggest that the significant reduction found after therapy could be related to the effect of the first eight sessions. Our study showed that nearly half of the patients treated with IPT-BNm recovered after eight sessions and nearly a quarter of them recovered. This is important, as the main criticism leveled at IPT when compared with CBT was that it is much slower to work (Agras et al., 2000). Being a slower treatment is a problem particularly as previous research found that early change in treatment is a potent and robust predictor of long-term outcome in BN (Fairburn, Agras, Walsh, Wilson, & Stice, 2004).
