Så här kan du arbeta: 1. Läs igenom provlektionen. 2. Kopiera upp så att alla elever har texterna ur Textbook och övningarna ur Workbook. Lektion 1 3. Börja med Before reading. Läs de två frågorna högt: What do people have to do to receive the Nobel Peace Prize? Which country awards the Nobel Peace Prize? Låt eleverna diskutera två och två för att sedan samla dem igen och gå igenom svaren. 4. Gör en lista på tavlan med personer eller organisationer som har fått fredspriset. India Meets Pakistan A Peace Prize for Children India and Pakistan used to be one country. When India became independent in 1947, it was divided in two. In 2014, the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to two people: a girl from Pakistan, and a man from India. Child labour was common in most places in the 1800s. From the age of five or six, children were expected to work. Some types of jobs were even reserved for children. The working week was Monday Saturday, often 12 hours a day. At the same time a new idea spread in Europe; children should not work, but get an education. Laws against child labour were passed in many countries. However, for children outside Europe this was not the case. In countries like India and Pakistan, child labour is still widespread. Why? Children are cheap labour because they get paid very little, or not at all. Poor children have to work to help their families, so they get very little education. International organisations like the UN have banned child labour, but it is the work of individuals that has made the biggest difference. In 2014, two outstanding individuals received the Nobel Peace Prize for their work against child labour and for the right of every child to get an education. It is a form of slavery, he says. He and his team have saved tens of thousands of children in rescue operations. Malala Yousafzai (born 1997) is from Pakistan. She wrote a blog where she said that all children should get an education. She was shot on her way home from school in October 2012, but survived. Instead of being scared, she decided to raise her voice and speak even louder. She has met world leaders, spoken to the UN assembly and written a book.
