Hösten 2017 Välkommen till prövning i Engelska 6! Målet för kursen är att du allsidigt utvecklar din engelska och självständigt använder språket i olika situationer, såväl formellt som informellt. Särskild vikt läggs vid förmågan att läsa texter av varierande slag. Kursplan och betygskriterier Skolverket anger vad kursen Engelska 6 ska innehålla och vilka kriterier som gäller för de olika betygen. Läs om detta på www.skolverket.se Lärobok Under dina förberedelser för din prövning ska du använda Progress Gold B av Eva Hedencrona mfl. Utäver detta kommer du också använda dig av litteratur som du väljer själv. Prövningen Prövning består av tre delar: 1. Ett skriftligt aulaprov (läsförståelse, ordkunskapsprov samt uppsats) OBS! Vid första skrivtillfället måste du lämna in följande: en förteckning över de böcker och den lyrik du har läst (se bilaga 2 nedan) kopior på dina artiklar dina exempelmeningar en kort beskrivning på engelska (ca en sida) av hur förberedelserna för din prövning gått till (planering, genomförande och en utvärdering av både studierna och källorna som du har använt dig av). 2. Ett hörförståelseprov 3. Ett muntligt prov som består av sex delar (se bilaga nedan för mer information angående de olika delarna) Du blir enbart kallad till det muntliga provet om du har uppnått betyget E eller högre på de två första delarna. Prövningsansvarig lärare meddelar tidpunkt för det hörförståelseprovet samt det muntliga provet när du har klarat det skriftliga provet. Muntligt prov gör du 1-2 veckor efter det skriftliga. Du måste vara beredd att acceptera den tid som du erbjuds. Se bilaga 1 för detaljerad information om de olika delarna.

Skriftligt aulaprov Den skriftliga prövningen i aulan tar fyra timmar och består av följande delar: - Läsförståelse (nationellt prov) 80 minuter - Uppsatsskrivning (nationellt prov) 100 minuter - Ordkunskapsprov 60 minuter Exempel på gamla nationella prov finns på följande sida: http://www.nafs.gu.se/prov_engelska/exempel_provuppgifter/ 2. Hörförståelse Hörförståelseprovet tar cirka 50 minuter och består av ett nationellt prov för kursen (se länken ovan). Tid för hörförståelseprovet meddelas via mail. 3. Muntligt prov Om du har uppnått betyget E eller högre på de två första delarna går du vidare till den tredje och sista delen av prövningen. Provet genomförs i mindre grupper tillsammans med övriga prövande elever. Provet består av sex moment och det är tillåtet med stolpmanus, men inte att läsa innantill. a. Romanredovisningar Redovisning av två romaner av engelskspråkiga författare. Du ska läsa båda romanerna och kunna analysera och redogöra för dem. Tips på hur du gör en romananalys får du i Progress Gold B i kapitlet On Literature (s. 131 135). Du ska även välja 25 ord från varje roman (sammanlagt 50 ord) som du tycker är viktiga. Gör sedan 50 exempelmeningar i vilka du använder de nya orden. Dessa meningar ska lämnas in när du gör det första skriftliga provet. När du läser, tänk såväl på språk som på innehåll. Ta också reda på några fakta om författarna och när/var romanerna skrevs. Notera att: a) Romanerna ska komma från två olika språkområden (ex. Irland, USA). b) En roman måste vara publicerad före 1960 och den andra efter 1960. c) Endast originalversionerna av romanerna accepteras, inga översättningar, förkortningar eller förenklade versioner!
b. Redovisning av äldre litteratur. Du ska kunna analysera samt redogöra för följande litteratur: 1. Shakespeare: Kännedom om innehållet i ett drama. Ca 50 rader läses noggrant på engelska. Du ska kunna analysera dessa rader och diskutera varför de är viktiga för dramat som helhet. 2. Dickens: Ett kapitel ur någon av hans romaner (t.ex. Oliver Asks For More ur Oliver Twist). Du ska kunna analysera detta kapitel samt diskutera varför det är viktigt för romanen som helhet. 3. Ett utdrag av en amerikansk klassiker som Mark Twain, Jack London, Henry James, Nathaniel Hawthorne (t.ex How To Build a Fire ur en novellsamling av Jack London). I stället för ett utdrag kan man läsa en novell. Du ska kunna analysera detta utdrag/novell. Tips på hur du analyserar litteratur får du i Progress Gold B i kapitlet On Literature (s. 131 135). c. Redovisning av fyra tidningsartiklar Välj fyra tidningsartiklar som lämpar sig för diskussion. Artiklarna hämtas ur valfri engelskspråkig tidning. Det är obligatoriskt att ta med artiklarna till prövningen. Du ska även lämna in en kopia på dem i samband med ditt första provtillfälle. Tänk på att: välja längre artiklar (motsvarande minst en halv sida i Dagens Nyheter) läsa in dig på artiklarna så att du kan göra en sammanfattning av huvuddragen vara förberedd på att redogöra för ord och uttryck i artiklarna Exempel på tidningar och tidskrifter du kan använda: Newsweek, National Geographic, The Guardian, The Daily Telegraph, The New York Times och The Washington Post. d. Muntligt anförande Förbered ett anförande med anknytning till samhällsfrågor/levnadsvillkor i ett engelskspråkigt land. Anförandet skall vara baserat på ett stolpmanus och längden bör vara ca 5 minuter. e. Redogör för och diskutera texter ur Progress Gold B Följande texter med övningar ska studeras. Information in English: Autumn 2017 Welcome to our exam in English 6 Aim of the course The aim of the course is that you develop your knowledge of language and the surrounding world so that you have the ability, desire and confidence to use English in different situations and for different purposes. You will develop skills which cover both reception (which means understanding spoken language and texts) and production and interaction (which means expressing oneself and interacting with others in speech and writing) as well as adapting your language to different situations, purposes and recipients. You will develop your knowledge of living conditions, social issues and cultural features in different contexts and parts of the world where English is used. You will interact in speech and writing, and produce spoken language and texts of different kinds, both on your own and together with others, using different aids and media. You will develop an understanding of how to search for, evaluate, select and assimilate content from multiple sources of information, knowledge and experiences. Curriculum and knowledge requirements Skolverket states the content of the course and the knowledge requirements for different grades in English 6. More information can be found here: www.skolverket.se Course literature During your preparations for the exam you must use Progress Gold B by Hedencrona et al. You will also use literature of your own choice. The exam The exam consists of three parts: 1. Written tests (a reading test, a vocabulary test and an essay) Attention! When you do the first written tests, you must hand in the following: a list of the novels and poems you have read (see appendix 2) copies of your newspaper articles your sentences with your chosen words from your novels a short description (approximately one A4 page) written in English about your preparations for the exam (planning, implementation and evaluation of both your studies and the sources you have used) 2. A listening test 3. An oral test which consists of six parts (please read the appendix below for more information about the different parts). You will only be asked to do the third and last part of the exam (the oral test) if you pass the written parts mentioned above with the grade E or higher.
The examiner will inform you about the day and time for the listening test and the oral test. The oral test takes place 1 2 weeks after the written tests. You must be prepared to accept the time given. Please read appendix 1 for more details about the different parts. Written test The written test takes four hours and consists of the following parts: - Reading comprehension (National test) 80 minutes - Writing an essay (National test) 100 minutes - Vocabulary test 60 minutes Former national tests can be found here: http://www.nafs.gu.se/prov_engelska/exempel_provuppgifter/ 2. Listening test The listening test takes approximately 50 minutes and consists of a national test. The examiner will inform you when the test takes place in a separate email. 3. Oral test If you have passed the first two parts of the exam with the grade E or higher, you will be asked to do the third and last part of the exam. The test will be performed together with other students in small groups. The test consists of six parts and you can use key words, but it is not allowed to read directly from your paper. You should be able to talk freely about the different parts. a. Analyzing novels Presentation of two novels written by English-speaking authors. You should read both novels carefully and be able to analyse and present them. Advice about how to do a novel report/analysis can be found in Progress Gold B in the chapter On Literature (p. 131 135). You should also choose 25 words from each novel (all in all 50 words) which you think are important. You should then create 50 sentences in which you use the new words. You must hand in these sentences together with the written test. While reading, consider both language and content. Also find facts about the authors and about when/where the novels were written.
Note that: a. The novels must come from two different language areas (e.g. Ireland, the USA). b. One novel must be published before 1960 and the other one after 1960. c. Only the original versions of the novels are accepted, not rewritten or abridged editions. b. Presentation of older literature You should be able to account for and present the following literature: 1. Shakespeare: Knowledge about the content in a play. Approximately 50 lines should be read carefully. You should be able to analyse these lines and discuss why they are important for the play overall. 2. Dickens: One chapter from one of his novels (e.g. Oliver Asks For More from Oliver Twist). You should be able to analyse this chapter and discuss why it is important for the novel overall. 3. An extract from an American classic: e.g. Mark Twain, Jack London, Henry James, Nathaniel Hawthorne (for example How To Build a Fire from a short story collection by Jack London). It is also possible to read a short story instead of an extract. You should be able to analyse the extract/short story. Advice about how to analyse literature can be found in Progress Gold B in the chapter On Literature (p. 131 135). c. Four newspaper articles Choose four newspaper articles which are suitable for discussions. The articles should be from English-language newspapers of your own choice. It is mandatory to bring the articles to the oral exam. You must also hand in copies of them when you do the first written exam. Consider this: d. Oral presentation choose long articles (at least half a page of Dagens Nyheter) read the articles carefully so you will be able to summarize the most important details in them be prepared to be able to explain words and expressions in the articles Examples of newspapers and magazines which can be used: Newsweek, National Geographic, The Guardian, The Daily Telegraph, The New York Times and The Washington Post. Prepare an oral presentation about social issues/living conditions in an English-speaking country. The presentation should be based upon key words and the length should be about 5 minutes.
e. Course book reading The following texts and their exercises should be studied. You should be able to give an account of and discuss these texts.
