J. Japan Association on Odor Environment Vol. -1 No. 0,**0 423 Physiological basis of oral somatosensory and chemical senses Noritaka SAKO Department of Oral Physiology, Division of Oral Functional Science and Rehabilitation, Asahi University School of Dentistry, +2/+ + Hozumi, Mizuho, Gifu /*+ *,30, Japan Abstract Feeding behavior is controlled by oral somatosensory as well as chemical senses. Oral somatosensory is including some senses, such as touch, temperature, pain and texture. This review describes about the physiological basis of somatosensory mechanisms elicited by several oral organs, and the relation of chemical senses and these senses. Key words : somatosensory, oral membrane, teeth, tongue, feeding behavior
