CENTRE FOR HEALTHCARE ARCHITECTURE CENTRUM FÖR VÅRDENS ARKITEKTUR Invites to a seminar 9 March about Future Proofing of new healthcare facilities Future Proofing generality, flexibility and adaptability. For a sustainable approach to the design of healthcare architecture it is crucial to maximize the long time effectiveness for the whole life of the facility. This as always - puts demands on creating buildings that are adaptable. Healthcare is a complex and continuously changing trade and the speed of change is higher today than ever due to the rapid development of medical technology, therapy, organization, demography and patient demands. Today there is also a new awareness of architecture as being an important part of the healing process. Access to daylight and nature, space for patients and their next of kin, supporting design the approach of evidence based design is gaining i momentum. Sustainable healthcare architecture therefore is one that in the long run is capable of being adapted to continually changing requirements and at the same time provides a healing and therapeutic environment. Around Europe and in the Nordic Countries there are a number of new hospitals that deals with this challenge in very different ways. To be able to make informed decisions about future proofing of new healthcare facilities it is important to be aware of and consider these different approaches. We therefore need a systematic evaluation of what has been built as well as an informed open discussion about possible consequences and scenarios. As a part of this discussion, we have invited a group of experienced architects from practice and academia to a seminar. They will start with a short personal introduction (15 min each) and then we will open up for a joint discussion Henk de Jong, guest lecturer and architect from Holland Åke Wiklund, professor emeritus, Space for Care Chalmers Håkan Josefsson, White arkitekter Peter Fröst, adjunct professor Chalmers Time: 9 March 2011, 10.00 12.00.
