Inom ramavtalet har ett stort antal studier genomförts och fortsätter att genomföras, till stor del baserade på den longitudinella SLOSH-studien samt RALF- och WOLF-databaserna. Syftet är att studera hur strukturella faktorer i dagens arbetsliv påverkar arbetsmiljö, hälsa och samhälle. Ramanslaget har möjliggjort utveckling av flera projekt som till stor del sker i samarbete med bland ledande internationella forskare. Arbetet inom programmet bygger vidare på Krav-Kontroll-Stödmodellen som Töres Theorell var med att utveckla tillsammans med professor Robert Karasek. Denna modell har blivit den internationellt mest använda modellen för arbetsstress och har bland annat relaterats till hjärtkärlsjuklighet. Inom programmet har denna forskning fortsatt och vidareutvecklats. Andra viktiga delar i programmet har varit forskning om sjukskrivning, mental hälsa och nedskärningar. Tack vare programmet har SLOSH-studien (Swedish Longitudinal Occupational Survey of Health) kunnat utvecklas till världens största riksrepresentativa undersökning av sambanden mellan psykosocial arbetsmiljö och hälsa.
