We are safely back home to VIlnius. Bilaga 1 Baltic Cup Regatta, Jonkoping Sweden 26. 27. September 2015 It was the twenty second edition of Baltic Cup Regatta which started in 1994. The venue of regatta was lake Munksjon located in Jonkoping Sweden. Organizing Committee led by Carter Arnold and Mats Almlow did an excellent work, so regatta were very successful. Young oarsmen and oarswomen between 15 and 17 year of age took part in the regatta. There were rowers from 9 countries (Germany, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland ). Unfortunately the young athletes from Byelorussia and Russia did not take part in regatta, because of the financial problems. Baltic Cup include 5 classes of boats for junior women, and 5 classes of boats for junior men (4-, 1x, 2-, 2x, 4x-). The distance for races was 2000 m on Saturday, and 500 m on Sunday. During two days of races weather conditions were extremely good: sunshine, no rain and no wind. Athletes, coaches, team managers, did stay in hotel in the town. Transport between the regatta course and accommodation place was afforded by respective Rowing Federations itself. Breakfasts we had at hotel, the lunches and dinners were served for all the crews in restaurant nearby the rowing club. The quality of meals, were very good for all the rowers. After each race the first three crews were honoured at the Victory Stage, and all the rowers from these crews got medals. This year the overall winner (Federation which had the highest score in the 2000 m races and the 500 m races) was German Rowing Federation. Each crew participating in a race got points depending of which rank they got in their race. The results from the two days races were following: 1.Germany 2.Denmark 3.Poland 4.Norway 5.Estonia 6.Lithuania 7.Sweden 8.Latvia 9.Finland 213 points 177 points 139 points 128 points 115 points 90 points 82 points 71 points 21 points We had also very nice social program. Organizing Committee organized the disco for athletes and reception for officials. Next Baltic Cup Regatta will be held in Hamburg Germany. Between 01-02 of October 2016. Tomasz Waszczuk
Member of working group for Baltic Cup Report Baltic Cup 2015, 26 th 27 th September, Lake Munksjön Jönköping Prior to the regatta: All relevant information was available in good time before the regatta. The homepage was very informative. Even a Baltic cup magazine was handed out to everyone. The Baltic cup regulations: The regulations does not say anything about which rule set to be used. As this is a regatta preparing the rowers for bigger international regattas I think it s obvious that it has to be the FISA rule set that should be used. I decided to use the FISA rules, but this should really be entered into the Baltic Cup Regulations. Team managers meeting: All countries were present at the meeting and the check if all crews were present and the draw was dealt with in an efficient way. Germany had a request that there should be a race for lanes in those categories with less than seven boats. There was a discussion about this matter. The opinion of the meeting was that race for lanes should be used on Saturday (for the 2 000 meters races) but not on Sunday (for the 500 meters races). The program was slightly altered because of this request. Maybe this also should be dealt with in the Baltic Cup Regultions. Race course: There were no remarks about the race course. On Saturday there were fixed starts and on Sunday there were loose starts from 500 m. Due to excellent weather condition and experienced umpires there were no problems either of the days. The trafic rules were displayed both in the magazine and on the site, and there were no problems regarding this. Control commission: Every boat was checked according to the FISA rules. Quite a few had some remarks, but nothing that couldn t be fixed. So all boats were allowed to go out. Work of the umpires: We were ten umpires, including me, and it was enough to cover the different duties. On Saturday we had one starter, five umpires (who both acted as judge at start and then followed the race), two in the control commission and one in the finish tower. On Sunday we had one marshal, one starter, one judge at start, three umpires, two in the control comission and one in the finish tower. Everything worked very well. No incidents or problems at all. And the communication from the start to the finish also worked perfect. All start lists were delivered in time before the races to the umpires. Every start was on time for the whole regatta. Episodes: One yellow card was given to the Danish M4x because they were late for start. One crew had a broken oar (!!) during the race and could not finish the race.
Overall impression: In my opinion the organizer hosted an excellent regatta and I m sure the athletes, team managers, spectators, staff and umpires would agree. Regards Maria Fredriksson Nordic umpire
