Changing people s attitudes and behavior towards the public transportations The municipalities Gislaved, Gnosjö och Värnamo is a very strong labour market region where a lot of people travel to and from their place of work every day. For example between Gislaved and Värnamo around 1000 people travel every day, in each direction. One thing that distinguishes the region is that despite of good possibilities to public transportations by bus that most people travel by car. The municipalities would like to change this and to do so seek funds together. Together we think that we can create a good base to change the attitude och behavior among our inhabitants. If our inhabitants would choose to take the bus instead of the car it would have good impact on the environment, the accidents would reduce and it would therefore be a safer way to travel. It would hopefully also lead to even better public transportations in the region as a good spin off effect. To go through with this the municipalities besides to work with attitude changing means and communicate the benefits of using public transportation it is important to improve the bus stops, well managed and safe sidewalks for both biking and walking. It will also be necessary to create parking places for both bikes and cars. If we can manage this we will also help out to create a better public health in the municipalities.
Planning for high-speed railway in south Sweden The European Corridor Today in many parts of the world investing in high-speed railways has become important and can be linked to a positive development for regions. In Sweden one can argue that it mainly concern two major projects that are also interrelated - Götalandsbanan and the European corridor. The project Götalandsbanan would provide a corridor from Stockholm to Norrköping- Linköping and further towards Jönköping, Borås and Gothenburg. The section concerning Södertälje (Järna) - Nykoping - Norrköping-Linköping is called Ostlänken. The route Götalandsbanan is also suggested to include Skavsta and Landvetter airport. The European corridor continues further south on Götalandsbanan at Jönköping towards Värnamo, Helsingborg and on through Denmark (either via the tunnel Helsingborg - Helsingor or via Lund, Sweden - Malmo), Fehmarn Belt and to Hamburg in Germany. These two projects combined are often termed the European corridor. The new railways will mainly be trafficked by high speed (> 320 km / h) and fast interregional trains (<250 km / h). As a part of the planning stage of the project, the Traffic administration has calculated that high-speed trains could keep full speed past a number of stations and at the same time connect with siding tracks that are separated from the main train- track.
continue, high-speed railway The high-speed trains with low travel time, such as 35-40 minutes between Jonkoping and Linkoping, will provide many positive effects on regional development and the regional labour markets. Each municipality or region with the least selfpreservation sees the importance in planning these station areas. This includes modern station solutions for the new railway system while still providing the opportunity for efficient switch between different modes of transport. While there are still an uncertainty about the complete expansion of the European corridor the distances so far decided is the Eastern Link (Stockholm - Linköping) and Western Link (Gothenburg - Boras). Strategic planning and concerted action are needed in order to fully achieve prosperous regional development in southern Sweden and to be on board when the high-speed train leaves the platform. The framing of question is as follows: Firstly, How is the uncertainty that is surrounding the project handled in the regional and municipal planning? 2nd How could this planning be clear that it could eventually contribute to the project being realised? 3rd Is the existing association sufficient or should it be developed / extended further?
Project Increasing bicycling in Municipality A The intention with the project is to make more people use the bike instead of the car. That will lead to a better environment, more healthy population and fewer costs in infrastructure budget. We know that more people use the bike if we can provide them with good bicycle routs. A good rout means it s secure, well lighted, fast and takes you from a to b without stops and obstacles. It s important to create routs that s functional for children and young adults, especially since these groups have no other independent way of transportation. Bicycle is also an important part of the tourist sector. Taking the bike instead of the car is a good health insurance and gives you training and fresh air in your daily life and routine. It also safes you a lot of money. If more people used the bike instead of the car the pollution and damage to the environment would decrease. If we don t create this type of project, we see a risk that the use of car will increase even more. We also see a risk of increase in environmental damage and pollution. We wish to make a document that gather all of our strategies in one place. We want to pinpoint which routs that needs improvement and development. We also want to see which routs that are strong roads and will function as main roads in a traffic system.
The attractive small town To counter urbanization, we need to create a more attractive alternative among the smaller towns around the region. The smaller towns need to be developed to attract new citizens and to retain existing ones. Several areas have been identified as vital to create a more attractive community. - Commerce in the city center - Traffic planning and pedestrian areas - Green areas - Artistic design - Illumination - Meeting venues - Culture - Safety To achieve this, we want to seek contact with other smaller cities that have managed to build up an attractive small town environment. We want projects and cooperation involving an exchange of ideas that will enable us to find inspiration and knowledge. We want to find new forms of collaboration and funding schemes that we can implement in our own communities. At a later stage we also want to implement projects in which we can realize the most innovative ideas.
