Read the text and then answer in ENGLISH the questions that follow. Vasaloppet väcker många känslor och minnen till liv, både historiskt och sportsligt. Vasaloppet är inte bara en skidtävling utan handlar också om tradition, historia, kultur och frihet. Vasaloppet har sitt ursprung i 1500-talets början. Sverige befann sig vid denna tid i en påtvingad union med Danmark och missnöjet bland det svenska folket var stort. Gustav Vasa var en av de främsta frihetskämparna mot den danske kungen, Kristian II. Kung Kristian II hade tagit stormanssonen Gustav Vasa till Danmark som fånge. När Gustav Vasa hörde om hur danskarna planerade att utrota de förnämsta och rikaste svenskarna, bestämde Gustav sig för att fly hem till Sverige. Av sina släktingar fick han veta att kung Kristian ställt till med ett blodbad i Stockholm där bland annat hans far samt många andra svenska stormän avrättats. Gustav var nu också själv i fara då han var efterspanad av danskarna. Gustav begav sig då till Mora, den största socknen i Dalarna, där de förmögna och inflytelserika bergsmännen bodde. Bergsmännen lyssnade på Gustavs redogörelse om kung Kristians framfart och blodbadet i Stockholm. Han manade dem till uppror mot kung Kristian, men de vågade inte samarbeta med Gustav, som de visste var efterlyst av den danske kungen. Dessutom var de inte säkra på om Gustav talade sanning. Istället rådde de Gustav att omedelbart lämna Mora. Djupt besviken, flydde Gustav sin väg på skidor västerut mot den norska gränsen förföljd av danska spejare. Strax därefter fick bergsmännen i Mora höra om händelserna i Stockholm från flera olika håll. De förstod då att det Gustav berättat var sant och att de behövde honom för att befria Sverige från de danska tyrannerna. Några män valdes ut för att leta rätt på honom och föra honom tillbaka till Mora. I historiens första Vasalopp hann man ifatt Gustav Vasa i Sälen och övertalade honom att återvända till Mora för att leda deras frihetskamp. Efter två och ett halvt års krigande blev landet fritt från det danska förtrycket och Gustav Vasa blev vald till Sveriges förste konung den 6 juni 153. 400 år senare tog man upp iden att anordna ett nio mil långt skidlopp till Gustav Vasas minne Vasaloppet och den 19 mars 19 genomfördes den första Vasaloppstävlingen. 119 skidlöpare deltog, varav 117 kom i mål. Vasaloppet äger alltid rum första söndagen i mars och är för både damer och herrar! Förra året åkte drygt 9 000 personer skidor i Gustav Vasas spår och antalet deltagare ökar för varje år! Vasaloppet går ut på att åka skidor mellan Sälen och Mora, en sträcka på hela 90 kilometer. Det en stor fysisk prestation att åka Vasaloppet och man finner både elitåkare och vanliga motionärer i skidspåret. Utefter vägen finns det åtskilliga kontroller där man kan få smaka på den legendariska varma blåbärssoppan och vasabullen. Blåbärssoppan lockar inte bara skidfantasterna utan också turisterna som vill ta del i denna unika folkfest. Vasaloppet bjuder på både historia, tradition, motion och nöje på svenskt sätt! Jag kom precis hem från skolan och hittade ett brev från min bästa kompis, som skall flytta med sin familj till Island på fem månader. De åker dit redan nästa månad då pappan måste åka dit med sitt jobb. Min kompis familj har bjudit med mig för det är på en relativt kort tid. Min kompis tycker att tiden på Island skulle vara roligare om jag kom med. Naturligvis vill jag följa med men problemet är att jag just nu går sista året på gymnasiet.
