Hemresa bokas från East London vid ca 12.00 den 13/11 Itinerary Day 1: Arrival and Orientation Ride 6km After arrival at Umngazi River Bungalows on the Wild Coast you will have time to freshen up before meeting your horse and taking a short ride in your beautiful new surroundings to test your gear and get to know your mount for the next ten days. In the evening over dinner your guides, Barry and Joe, will provide a briefing on the adventure ahead. Day 2: Umngazi River Bungalows to The Kraal Backpackers 17km Our first full day in the saddle takes us down the coast, starting on pristine beach and, as the coastline steepens, winding our way amongst the rolling grassy hills that lie behind. We will cross three significant rivers today, with one, the UMngazana, being a swim. This will be good practice for the larger rivers to come later in the adventure! The day ends on our arrival at The Kraal Backpackers, where your bag will be ready and waiting and after freshening up we may have time for a beer in the local village, or simply enjoy the special ambience of The Kraal and its beautiful setting, before dinner. Day 3: The Kraal to Mdumbi Backpackers 33km After an early breakfast we set out on one of our longest days of riding. It is a big day! We cross some challenging countryside as the coastline steepens and the hills and valleys grow in stature. Our route will alternate between grassy rolling hills, deep wooded valleys and the occasional estuarine beach: dramatic terrain of breathtaking beauty that will test your resolve and stamina. We cross one major river, the Mtakatye, which may require a detour inland to cross by bridge if there have been recent rains. Our day ends at the beautiful Mdumbi River Mouth and Mdumbi Backpackers, where you will have time to relax and prepare for dinner, no doubt thankful for a soft bed and an early night!
Day 4: Mdumbi Backpackers to Coffee Bay 14km Departure on this day will be timed to the tide, to make for easier swimming of the nearby Mtata River, a challenging prospect and not to be taken lightly! Once this obstacle is overcome, the day is ours and we ll be able to sunbathe and dry out on the banks of the Mtata before a leisurely ride with spectacular views afforded by the grassy undulating plains above the cliffs that drop into the Indian Ocean. Our day ends at Coffee Bay, where once more our bags and a comfortable room await us after a day short in distance but not in adventure and beauty! Day 5: Coffee Bay to Bulungula Lodge 29km After breakfast we depart Coffee Bay and pass the famous Hole-in-the-Wall, where the Mpako River meets the ocean.this river may well present us with a swim to start the day, but thereafter our route takes us onto the high ground above the coastal cliffs for more dramatic scenery and some exciting climbs and descents to sandy bays, before a final blast down the beach to our destination and resting place of Bulungula Lodge. Day 6: Bulungula Lodge Rest Day A day off from riding in this most remote and idyllic venue on the Wild Coast: there will be the opportunity to take a guided canoe trip up the River, take a short ride inland to experience more of Xhosa culture or simply spend the day on the beach working on your tan, taking an occasional dip into the Indian Ocean. Ingen ridning denna dag! Day 7: Bulungula Lodge to The Haven 19km We depart after breakfast and the coast begins to settle into gentle hills that roll into the sea with fringes of dune forest and gorgeous beaches. The Xora River is likely to be a swim, but otherwise the day s riding alternates between the grassy tops of these rolling hills and magnificent beaches that present the opportunity for carefree gallops that often prove too much for either mount or rider to resist! The last stretch of the day leads into the Dwesa Nature Reserve and through magnificent coastal forest before we reach The Haven and its creature comforts.
Day 8: The Haven to Kobb Inn 37km Departure will be timed with the tide to make the crossing of the Mbashe River possible. Once we ve conquered this obstacle, now feeling invincible, a long day of riding lies ahead, with another swim at the Nqabara River. Riding is once more a mixture of pristine beaches and remote coastal hills; the beauty of the Wild Coast will by this stage be leaving a deep and lasting impression on you. The day ends at Kob Inn where your travel bag and the comfort of a cold drink and a hot shower await. Day 9: Kobb Inn to Wavecrest Hotel 25km Our day starts with the crossing of the nearby Qora River, after which it is another blissful day s riding of beaches and rolling hills culminating in a one the finest stretches of hard sand on the Wild Coast and a gallop to Wavecrest Hotel at the mouth of the Inxaxo River. Day 10: Wavecrest to Morgan Bay 27km Our last day takes us over hills as the coastline becomes more rugged. We pass the famous wreck of the Jacaranda, before the penultimate stage takes us to the Kei River marking the end of the Wild Coast. We cross the Kei with the horses on the ferry and ride on 6km to the holiday hamlet of Morgan Bay and its beachfront hotel, our accommodation for the night. After settling in and washing the dust of 10 days on the trail from tired bodies, we gather to enjoy a farewell dinner on our last night together.
Day 11: Departure We will gather for breakfast, after which you will depart as arranged Rates Exclude: Single supplement: Transfers. Additional horses for riders over 95kg in riding gear.
