Målerås Glasbruk står för förnyelse men förvaltar samtidigt det svenska glashantverkets traditioner. Idag delar han sitt konstnärskap med fyra formgivarkollegor; Ludvig Löfgren, Robert Ljubez, Lina Lundberg och Morgan Persson, som alla med stor respekt för hantverket låtit sitt skapande inspireras av nyfikenhet och nytänkande. Målerås Glasbruk firar 125-års jubileum! Från medicinflaskor till konstglas Det första glasbruket i Målerås grundades 1890 och den första tiden producerades munblåsta fönsterglas och medicinflaskor. Under 1940- och 50-talet ändrades inriktningen på produktionen till traditionell servisglastillverkning. 1970-talet var en turbulent tid i Glasriket där många glasbruk lades ner eller bytte ägare och 1981 köpte Mats Jonasson tillsammans med glasarbetarna och byborna i Målerås glasbruket. Hela 80-talet var en expansiv tid för Målerås Glasbruk och från 1987 till dags dato är familjen Jonasson majoritetsägare. Mats Jonasson var i många år den ende konstnären knuten till glasbruket och han är främst känd för sina detaljerade djurmotiv där hans unika kunskap inom gravyrkonsten skapar ett stilrent djup i motiven. Hans serie Wildlife är fortfarande den mest populära och på senare år har den även fått ett nytt uttryck tack vare en ny teknik inom glasmåleriet. Under 2000-talet gick Mats Jonasson in i sin mer färgstarka period och då märks även nya inspirationskällor. I sagornas och mytologins värld finns kända personligeter som Mats Jonasson gärna avbildar, gärna i form av starka ansiktsuttryck. Under de senaste åren har Målerås Glasbruk utökat sin formgivarkår och i dagsläget är Ludvig Löfgren, Lina Lundberg, Morgan Persson och Robert Ljubez knutna till glasbruket. Målerås Glasbruk är ett svenskt glasbruk där hantverket står i centrum. All tillverkning sker i Målerås och allt görs för hand, detta gör att varje produkt får ett unikt uttryck. Med en rik produktutveckling samt yrkesskickliga hantverkare ser Målerås fram emot nästa 125 år! Målerås Glassworks celebrates its 125 th Anniversary! From medicine bottles to art glass The first glassworks in Målerås was founded in 1890. There was a great demand for mouth blown window glass and medicine bottles in the early Målerås era. During the 1940-50 s Målerås Glassworks was known for making high end crystal stemware. In 1981 designer Mats Jonasson and local investors acquired Målerås Glassworks and since 1987 the Mats Jonasson family is the majority owner of the company. For many years, Mats Jonasson was the only designer at Målerås Glassworks. In the beginning his unique skills in engraving together with his love and interest in nature resulted in the world famous Wildlife series. It has become a Målerås classic and is still very popular. In 2000 Mats Jonasson entered his more colourful period where the inspiration often came from ancient stories and myths. In recent years Målerås Glassworks has extended the number of artists and today Ludvig Löfgren, Lina Lundberg, Morgan Persson and Robert Ljubez work at the company. Today Målerås Glassworks is considered one of the most exciting art glassworks. The company is represented all over the world with an export rate of about 40%. 7

Mats Jonasson Tidigt uppmärksammades Mats Jonassons tecknartalang och han började arbeta som gravörlärling vid glasbruket redan 1959. Under följande decennier arbetade han med flera av samtidens stora glaskonstnärer. Han utvecklade samtidigt den naturnära stil som han sedan dess förfinat till fulländning. Våra skogar har sedan urminnes tider påverkat folksjälen, säger Mats Jonasson. Inspirerad av denna natur har han med öppna sinnen skapat sina särpräglade objekt i kristall. Idag är glasbrukets son representerad över hela världen. Mats Jonasson s talent as a designer attracted attention early on, when he started work as an apprentice engraver at the glassworks in 1959. Over the next few decades he worked with many of the most respected contemporary glass artists in Sweden. During this period, he developed that natural style of his which he s since perfected. Our forests have captured the hearts and minds of people since time immemorial, says Mats. Inspired by the natural world around him, he has opened his mind to create his distinctive masterpieces in the finest Swedish crystal. Nowadays, this son of the glassworks is represented all over the world. Ludvig Löfgren Ludvig Löfgren har en lång gedigen utbildning och erfarenhet inom både konst och glashantverk. Han har bland annat en examen från Hovedskou Fine Painting School och Konstfack i Stockholm. Sin hantverksutbildning har han bland annat fått på glasskolorna i Kosta och Orrefors. Genom sitt unika formspråk tar han det traditionella svenska glaset in i framtiden. Ludvig Löfgren är sedan augusti 2013 knuten till Målerås Glasbruk. Hantverket i alla delar är mitt språk. Det genomsyrar allt jag gör, säger Ludvig Löfgren. Ludvig Löfgren has a long and solid education and experience of both art and glass handicraft. He has among other things a degree from Hovedskou s Fine Painting School and the College of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm. He has obtained his handicraft education at the Glass Schools in Kosta and Orrefors. With his unique design he takes the traditional Swedish glass into the future. Since August 2013 Ludvig Löfgren is one of Målerås Glassworks five designers. The handicraft is, in all its parts, the way I express myself. It is visible in all I create, says Ludvig Löfgren. 10

Robert Ljubez Robert Ljubez kom till Sverige från krigets Bosnien 1992. Erfarenheter av gravering och teckning i kombination med konstnärlig begåvning gav honom 1996 anställning på glasbruket i Målerås. Först som gravör, men han blev snart formgivaren Mats Jonassons högra hand. Denna tid har givit honom viktig kunskap om glasets oanade möjligheter. After escaping the horrors of war in Bosnia, Robert Ljubez ended up in Sweden at the end of 1992. Experiences from engraving and drawing in combination with an artistic talent led to a job at the Glassworks in 1996. At first, Robert Ljubez worked as an engraver, but he soon became Mats Jonasson s right hand man. Robert s time at Målerås Glasbruk has provided him with invaluable knowledge of the unexpected possibilities there are in working with crystal. Morgan Persson Morgan Persson tilltalas av naivistiska bilduttryck med en psykedelisk underton, där djur och natur ofta har en central roll. Hans arbete är oftast experimentellt, samtidigt lämnas väldigt lite åt slumpen, då verken balanserar mellan det naiva och det noggranna. Morgan Persson har under ett antal år utmanat och utvecklat glasets möjligheter, denna nyfikenhet ledde 2013 till ett avtal med Målerås Glasbruk. Morgan Persson is attracted by naivist art expressions with a psychedelic undertone, where animals and nature often play a central part. Morgan s work is mainly experimental, but at the same time there is very little left to chance as his works balance between the naive and the accurate. Morgan Persson has during a number of years challenged and developed the possibilities of glass, this curiosity led in 2013 to an agreement with Målerås Glassworks. Lina Lundberg Lina älskar mötet människor emellan men även mötet mellan olika material. Ett antal uttrycksfulla smycken med en fantastisk men galen kombination av material gjorde att Målerås Glasbruk fick upp ögonen för Lina. -Det är en spännande utmaning att överföra mina ideér i glas, men kanske är det en ännu större utmaning att lära sig att inte vara rädd för glasets skönhet. Lina loves the interaction between people, but also the interaction between materials. A series of expressive pieces of jewellery, with an awesome but almost insane combination of materials, caught the attention of Målerås Glassworks. -It s a very exciting challenge to carry over my ideas into the fascinating material of crystal. But it s probably an even larger challenge learning not to be overawed of the beauty of the crystal. 11
