Motivate all answers, showing all steps in a logical and clear way and make sure that your spelling is correct. 1. a) Draw the detailed flowchart (ending with delivering the furniture to the homes) for the following process. Use the jade needed to decorate one table and chair set as the functional unit (1000 g jade). All the information that you have access to is given in this question. (3) b) How many kg of jade ore are needed to make one functional unit? Show all steps in your calculation! (3) Some types of furniture that are sold to homes have artwork to make them look nice. One such artwork is made from a material called jade. The jade ore is excavated in China and then the jade is purified in Plant A which is at the same site as the excavation. It is transported 1500 km by large-sized trucks to a harbour in China. From there it is transported 7000 km by ship to a Swedish harbour, and then 300 km by medium size truck to Borås. The jade is used to decorate the furniture in Plant B, and then transported using small-sized trucks to the homes. The average distance from Plant B to the homes is 50 km. Additional information: 1. There are 15% losses in transport by ship and 5% losses in transport by truck (this is true for all size trucks except small-sized trucks) 2. Losses during manufacture and delivery to homes are negligible. a) Rita en detaljerad flödesdiagram för följande processen.
2. Perform a cradle to the gate LCIA (life cycle inventory analysis) for the following process. The flowchart is shown below. Only do the LCIA for the individual Plants A, B and C (do not sum the resources and emissions over the plants and do not include transport). Use 100 plastic bags as the functional unit. All the information that you have access to is given in this question. Show all steps in your calculation!!! (5) Plastic bags, PBs, are produced in Plant C, where plastic pellets (PPs) are mixed with additives and then moulded into PBs. The PBs contains 98 % PPs and 2% additives by mass. During the moulding process there is 5% waste that is deposited as landfill. The PPs are made from raw material (RM) in Plant B, and then transported by truck to Plant C. The distance between Plants B and C is 1000 km. The RM is excavated in Plant A, which is on the same site as Plant B. Environmental impacts of transport between Plants A and B are therefore negligible. Additional information: 1. Each plastic bag weighs 5 g. 2. The waste when converting RM to PP is negligible. 3. There is no waste during transport. All tillgängliga informationen finns i denna fråga. Extra information: 1. 3. Det finns inget spill under transport. Environmental data: Plant A: Products: RM Use of energy: Emissions to air: 50 tonnes / year 2 x 10 5 MJ/year from electricity 4 x 10 4 MJ/year from crude oil 50 kg CO 2 /year 0.2 kg NOx /month 4

3. Two plants (factories) A and B are involved when making a product P. The resources used, and emissions, per functional unit are given below (fu=1.0 kg P). The polymer PA is made from raw material, RM, which is extracted 2000 km from Plant A. Plants A and B are situated at the same site so that there are no transport costs for the polymer. Transportation by large-sized truck is used to transport the RM to Plant A. Transportation by large-sized truck requires 1.0 MJ/tonne-km and the fuel is diesel. Use the data given in Tables 1 and 2 to answer the following questions. Show all steps clearly and logically in your calculations. a) Do an LCIA and impact assessment to calculate the total resources used and emissions for the production of each functional unit (1.0 kg P). (4) b) Use the results in Part (a) to calculate the environmental impact, for each resource and emissions as well as the total impact, for production of each functional unit (1.0 kg P).
