Den är även riktad till civilingenjörsprogrammens utbytesstudenter. Utbildningsområde: Teknik Ämnesgrupp: Ekonomiska informationssystem Fördjupningsnivå: Avancerad nivå (A) Språk: Engelska Course Objective: The theme of this is the role of information technology (IT) in business and society from a management perspective. The provides an introduction to information systems (IS), and goes on to familiarise the students with management issues: IT and strategy; IS, organisations and change; the IT function, the organisation and the competition; security and control, ethics and integrity, knowledge management, and public e-services. After completing the, the participants should have an increased understanding of managerial IT-related issues, allowing them to participate in a constructive way in IT-related discussions in organisations concerning challenges and opportunities. Organisation For each topic, there are a number of articles and a case as assigned reading as preparation for class. On each topic, there is a lecture and a case discussion. As a complement, the participants form small groups and choose a topic related to the, research it, write a report and give an oral presentation. Content In present-day organisations, people interact with IT-based systems, IT-related investments form a prominent part of organisational investments, and the IT-mediated interaction between the organisation and its environment poses threats as well as opportunities. The provides an introduction to information systems (IS) concepts, such as the distinction between data and information, uncertainty and equivocality. It goes on to familiarise the students with a number of management issues: connections between IT and strategy; relationships between information systems and organisational change; IT governance and organisational and competitive aspects of IT infrastructure; security and control, ethics and integrity issues related with IS use; knowledge management, and the supply and management of public e-services.
