Masterplans
District Heating/Cooling District Heating/Cooling can be used to distribute energy from one area to another. Energy from waste combustion, heat recovery from waste water etc could be used to heat buildings.
Water Water is very important resource, often in short supply. With proven techniques, it is possible to utilise all waste water and treat it for reuse in irrigation of farmland, parks and green areas.
Design of Rainwater Systems In order to locally delay rainwater it is possible to use the landscaping design. In these rainwater reservoirs it is also possible to use natural purification of the water.
Potable Water/Fresh Water In new cities the water systems should be designed in a way that drinkable potable water is possible to get from pipes.
Energy Use in Buildings The total energy use for a building contains both energy for activities and for building services. The regulations control the energy for building services.
Regulations in Comparison Most buildings in Sweden of today
LEED (USA 1998) US Green Building Council Comparison Virtually all buildings, both existing and new. Third party certification Platinum Gold Silver BREEAM (United Kingdom, 1990) Building Research Establishment and UK Green Building Council Virtually all buildings, both existing and new. Third party certification Outstanding Excellent Very Good Good Pass EU Green Building Programme (12 EU countries, 2005) Sweden Green Building Council All buildings, both existing and new, except apartment buildings EU Green Building
Nearly Zero Energy Buildings + + The European Union have decided that in the year of 2020, all new buildings should be so called nearly zero energy buildings. This means really energy efficient buildings where the energy comes from renewable sources.
Design Principles
Think Energy Utilise nature! The climate system is one part of the building design. Demand control and seasonal adaption! www.fotoakuten.se
How to build a house in a energy smart way Generous insulation. Airtight walls and roof. Reduces leakage. Avoid thermal bridges.
All the Climate systems should work together!

WBF Invest, Sweden This office and production facility in Gothenburg has an energy consumption of a record low 29 kwh/m 2 and year.
Kindergarten, Sweden Kindergartens in Sweden are built to consume little energy with sustainable solutions. There is a political will to foster the future citizens to use the earth's resources as responsibly as possible. This Kindergarten in Gothenburg has an estimated energy consumption of 45 kwh/m 2 and year.
School in Storfors, Sweden The school in Storfors (Vargbroskolan) is built as a passive house. It is ventilated from a ground duct where energy (heating in winter and cooling in summer) from the ground is used. Solar cells and solar panels are used for educational purposes. Energy for building services: 36 kwh/m 2 and year
Energy Coordination Arenas for sports give unique opportunities to coordinate the usage of installation systems. If a swimming pool is built next to an ice rink the total energy consumption can be greatly reduced by coordinating the need for cooling and heating.
Billingehov Ice Rink Measures Energy/month By doing analyses and measurements of all systems for ice rinks a lot of energy could be saved. In Billingehov Ice rink we saved half the energy for electricity mainly by looking over control systems, recovery from cooling system to hot water, and new lighting fixtures.
