SOUND THE TRUMPET LÅT TRUMPETEN KLINGA Duetten Sound the Trumpet! Låt trumpeten klinga kommer från Come Ye Sons of Art Ode for Queen Mary s Birthday. TEXT: Nahum Tate (1652 1715). A New Version of the Psalms of David, Fitted to the Tune Used in Churches. COME, YE SONS OF ART 1. Sinfonia - Overture 2. Come, ye Sons of Art, come away, Tune all your voices and instruments play To celebrate this triumphant day. 3. Sound the trumpet, till around You make the list'ning shores rebound. On the sprightly hautboy play; All the instruments of joy, That skilful numbers can employ, To celebrate the glories of this day. 4. Come, ye Sons of Art, come away, Tune all your voices and instruments play To celebrate this triumphant day.
5. Strike the viol, touch the lute, Wake the harp, inspire the flute. Sing your patroness's praise, In cheerful and harmonious lays. 6. The day that such a blessing gave No common festival should be. What it justly seem'd to crave, Grant, o grant, and let it have The honour of a Jubilee. 7. Bid the virtues, bid the graces To the sacred shrine repair Round the altar take their places Blessing with returns of pray'r Their great defender's care, While Maria's royal zeal Best instructs you how to pray Hourly from her own Conversing with the Eternal Throne. 8. These are the sacred charms that shield Her daring hero in the field; Thus she supports his righteous cause, Thus to aid his immortal pow'r she draws. 9. See Nature, rejoicing, has shown us the way, With innocent revels to welcome the day. The tuneful grove, and talking rill, The laughing vale, the replying hill, With charming harmony unite, The happy season to invite. What the Graces require, And the Muses inspire, Is at once our delight and our duty to pay. Thus Nature, rejoicing, has shown us the way, With innocent revels to welcome the day. hautboy [ əәʊbɔɪ]= oboe
MUSIK: Henry Purcell (1659 1695). Han tjänstgjorde under tre kungar: Charles II, James II and William III. The fairy Queen och Dioclesian. Hans enda opera i egentlig mening är Dido and Aeneas. Psaltaren 150:3-6: Praise him in his noble acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness. Praise him in the sound of the trumpet: praise him upon the lute and harp. Praise him in the cymbals and dances: praise him upon the strings and pipe. Praise him upon the well-tuned cymbals: praise him upon the loud cymbals. Let every thing that hath breath: praise the Lord.
I Come Ye Sons of Art Ode for Queen Mary s Birthday sjungs duetten i D-dur. Raden you make the listening shores rebound kräver en kommentar. Till raderna: Sound the trumpet till around You make the list ning shores rebound. hade Purcell inte skrivit något för trumpetaren. Därför måste Shore sitta tyst och lyssna till texten the listening Shore." Att sjunga: Let Us Wander, Two Daughters of This Aged Stream (Six Duets/Boosey & Hawkes), Lost Is My Quiet (Ten Duets nr 2 (Stainer & Bell), What Can We Poor Females Do? Shepherd, Leave Decoying (Shepherd let s be playing ur King Arthur akt 2), No, Resistance Is But Vain (ur Henry Purcell - Six Duets med klaversats av Benjamin Britten/Boosey & Hawkes), Elegy on the Death of Queen Mary (Schott & Co), Turn Then Thine Eyes (ur akt V, The Fairy Queen, Shakespeare, 2 sopraner), The Lord Is King, Be the People, Glory Be to the Father (Purcell: The Works/Novello), Sing, Ye Christians All! (Leonard van Camp: A dozen duets for everyone, everywhere/laudamus Press), O Dive Custos (Henry Parker, 2 sopraner), Hark, how songsters (2 sopraner+2 bl.fl.+b.c./schott & Co), Jolly shepherd, come away (Dido and Aeneas).
SOUND THE TRUMPET Sound the trumpet till around You make the list ning shores rebound. On the sprightly hautboy play.
