This course focuses on the general view on learning in preschools that is based on care, upbringing, play and learning in collaboration. Having completed the course students are expected to have: - ability to present opinions about actual prerequisites historically and socially for how the view on children, childhood, upbringing, care and learning has changed - ability to communicate what the teaching professions entails in preschools and reflect on this based on the guiding documents - ability to integrate various development perspectives intended to understand children s development and learning from a general perspective - ability to utilise various forms of documentation in order to identify children s play and learning in educational contexts - ability to problemise and present the mission of the preschool implemented in thematic work in an intensified study - knowledge and understanding of factors that affect children s health and utilise various methods for health communication directed towards children and parents - ability to plan and conduct educational work concerning
2 movement, art and music for young children - ability to present central individual- and group related concepts in social- and group psychology and leadership theories - ability to deal with and problemise various work ethical dilemmas in relation to basic values - ability to discuss and problemise the relation between preschool and home based on central concepts Course contents Sub course 1. Preschool an arena for learning, 15 ECTS credits the preschool from a historical- and social perspective preschool guiding documents general view on children, childhood, care, upbringing, play and learning children s involvement and influence the child s perspective workplace training 3 ECTS credits Sub course 2. The possibilities of play and thematic work methods, 15 ECTS credits theories about play and imagination thematic work methods the importance of the educational environment methods and techniques used to study children and with children documentation workplace training 4.5 ECTS credits Sub course 3. Children s health and learning through art, music and movement, 15 ECTS credits the possibilities of creative subjects in terms of stimulating diverse development children s health and learning through art, music and movement workplace training 3 ECTS credits Sub course 4. Pedagogical leadership and collaboration for learning and development, 15 ECTS credits bases of leadership- and organisation theory the function of groups and leaders, communication, conflicts and conflict management parental involvement, schooling and discussions on progress workplace training 4.5 ECTS credits This course includes a total of 15 ECTS credits workplace training, in which the content of the course is related to pedagogical practice. The importance of collaboration in pedagogical meetings is emphasised, and the students are offered a chance to test and retrial personal work methods. This requires active participation at the workplace. Teaching methods This course is a net based course that is offered at half speed distance. It includes approximately 3-4 obligatory meetings 2-3 days per term that include lectures, seminars and group exercises. Discussions and tasks are mainly conducted via a net based learning platform. The workplace training is scheduled for 10 weeks half speed/day in
3 preschools and early childhood education organisations. The obligatory elements of the course are presented further in the study guide. Required reading Assessment methods See the end of the document. The course is examined in the form of written and verbal examination assignments/presentations and active participation at seminars. Detailed forms for each examination and grading criteria are further presented in the study guide. The professional approach of the teacher student at the workplace is assessed together with the workplace mentor. Type of grades One of the following grades is given: Väl godkänd, Godkänd or Underkänd (Pass with distinction, Pass or Fail). The workplace training is awarded the following grades: Godkänd or Underkänd (Pass or Fail). Credit overlap Study certificate Other information Students who successfully complete the course will receive a course certificate upon request. Credit distribution: Education 52.5 ECTS credits, Sociology 7.5 ECTS credits. Responsible entity: School of Education, Department of Didactics Any additional costs for tasks etc are paid for by the individual student.
