Want to see the Kinda Canal from its best side? Quiet flows the Kinda Canal through the Östgöta idyll, past the imposing oak landscape and the wide plains in the north to the lovely nature of the southern forests. At one time the canal was a vital transport means for timber and agricultural products. Today it is no less important for the stressed-out people looking for pleasing natural experiences and relaxation. Fifteen locks take you from the city stress to nature s peace. A LITTLE HISTORY AND FACTS ABOUT THE KINDA CHANNEL A hive of activity in Linköping harbour around the turn of the century. Plans for building a canal to simplify transports from southern Östergötland to Linköping on Lake Roxen were first hatched in the mid-1700s. The idea was to use the Stångå River and to connect lakes Rängensjöar, Järnlunden and Åsunden. 1799 started the construction of the canal and ran until 1813 when the spring flood destroyed Brokind lock. Kanalbolaget forced the company into bankruptcy. Nearly 40 years later resumed it plans a new route which required less excavation. It s the distance we travel on today. Locks no. of lock hight 1. Pleasure for all tastes and senses. WORTH KNOWING Rimforsa Quay M/S Kind has been based at Rimforsa Quay, which is the final destination of canal tours in this southern part of the canal system. Rimforsa Quay has been completely renovated and is signposted from Rimforsa Square. The quay is about a one kilometre walk from the Rimforsa Travel Centre, where there are bus connections.. Onboard restaurant There is a restaurant on board the M/S Kind. Everything served onboard is prepared from raw materials in the ship s galley. Depending on the cruise (day, evening or charter), there is both à la carte and different menus during the summer. For certain cruises there is a buffet with varied themes. Ship capacity The onboard dining hall seats 60 guests. There is also place for an extra 12 or so in the cafe. The M/S Kind is permitted to carry 133 passengers. We think the comfort limit is around 100 during the day cruises and somewhat fewer in the evenings. Family discount Children up to and including age 15 come free of charge with their guardian (two per family). Additional children per family 0-5 come free of charge, 6-15 at 50% adult fare. Does not cover food and beverages or school groups. Group discount Groups of at least 15 persons can receive a discount on a cruise. Packed food Because there is a restaurant on board and due to space requirements, you may not bring your own packed food on board. Payment You pay for the cruise and any food eaten on board on the ship, either in cash or by credit card (VISA, Eurocard, Mastercard, American Express or other major cards). Cancellation Cancellation more than 30 days in advance is free of charge. For groups, the number of persons can be changed up to four hours prior to departure. Otherwise the charge will be for the number prebooked. Parking If the cruise starts in Linköping, we recommend the SJ Riksparkering app. five minutes from the quay on foot. If you choose to travel only part of the way, you must arrange transportation yourself. Approx. 11 km. (estimated trekking time 3-4 hours) relatively easy hiking route that follows the paths and minor roads through Europe s largest oak woodlands.
