hanges in the N - Munsell Translation Key In January 04, 0 new N standard colours were introduced. The N - Natural olor ystem - colour sample collection now contains 1 9 standardized colour samples. This means that some Munsell colours now correspond better to other N standard colour samples than before. Note that the 0 new N standard colours are not marked in the triangles on pages 38-48 in the N - Munsell Translation Key, Edition 2, 1997 (part 2 in this file). Included are also some corrections on page 15, 21 and 37 (part 2). Part 1 in this file includes the changed values for the N - Munsell Translation Key. Part 2 is a copy of the previous booklet N - Munsell Tranlsation Key, Edition 2 from 1997. The only changes that have been made are that the colours have been highlighted where changes have occurred in relation to the 0 new colours, which are shown in part 1 instead. Key for translation from Munsell to N Munsell ook of olor In 15, the artist Albert Munsell wrote A color notation with a description of a colour appearance system. The first edition of the Atlas of the Munsell olor ystem was published in 1915. The Munsell system was intended to be a visual colour order system, but the colour samples were selected largely on physical and mathematical principles, so that the resulting structure does not fully comply with the visual perception of colours. This is particularly true for several of the principal colours, which are five in the Munsell system, compared with four in the N. The consequence is that Munsell and differ from the corresponding N elementary colours: is slightly bluish and distinctly greenish, whereas the correspondence is rather good for and. After a number of editions the atlas samples had changed considerably from the original specifications. A Munsell renotation was undertaken to smooth out the irregularities, aiming at an equal spacing but still adhering to the then main structure. The Munsell system is since 1943 defined by colorimetrically defined aim points for the atlas samples, evaluated for illuminant and the IE 1931 2 o observer (ATM tandard Method D 1535-89). N N (NATUAL OLO TEM) is a system with the help of which all conceivable surface colours (not fluorescent or metallic colours) can be described. The system is illustrated by a colour atlas containing 17 colour samples. N is wedish, Norwegian and panish national standard and is one of the most widely used colour-describing systems in the world. This translation key is based on the N Edition 2. All N colour samples based on N Edition 2 have an in front of the N notation ( stands for second edition). The variables in the N notations are built entirely on visually observable properties of the colours. In the notation for a pink colour - the first two digits indicate the percentage of visual blackness in the colour. The next two digits indicate the colour s chromaticness. The letter-number combination after the hyphen indicates the colour s hue, i.e. which chromatic attributes are included and the relation between these. In this case, it is a red hue with % blueness. N can also be illustrated graphically in a geometrical model, where the blackness and chromaticness are given in an equilateral triangle and the hue on a circle. A point in the triangle and a line on the circumference of the circle provide an unequivocal description of a colour. The pink colour - is marked in the triangle and in the circle below. Translation Key In the accompanying tables (pages 8) the exact N notations are given for the Munsell ook of olor. eside this notation (measured acccording to wedish tandard 01 91 04), the nearest N colour sample (by visual estimation) and the colour difference in E cmc(1:1) for each Munsell colour are given. It is not always easy to determine which is the nearest N-sample. The comparison between the notations has been complemented with a visual estimation. In order to illustrate how the Munsell colours are distributed they are also shown graphically plotted in N colour triangles for different hues (pages 36-46). For translation from a N colour to a Munsell-colour the 41 N colour triangles can be used. In each triangle both the positions of the Munsell samples and the N colour samples are illustrated graphically. Översättningsnyckel I följande 2 tabeller (sid 8) återfinns den exakta N-beteckningen för Munsell-färgerna. Förutom denna (mätningar enligt vensk tandard 01 91 04) anges även närmaste N-färgprov (visuellt bestämt) och dess färgdifferens mot Munsellprovet i E cmc(1:1). Vad som är närmaste Nprov är inte alltid helt enty digt. Jämförelsen mellan beteckningarna har kompletterats med en visuell helhetsbedömning.
