Välkommen till IB Expos utbildningsdagar! The Thing möter musiker från Halland 16 18 april Tolv musiker och kompositörer med Halland som bas från Oslo i norr till Malmö i söder möter den den svensk norska trion The Thing (Ingebrigt Håker Flaten, Paal Nilssen Love och Nordiska Rådets musikpristagare 2011 Mats Gustafsson) som tillhör det yttersta internationella toppskiktet vad gäller improvisation oavsett genre. Trion är var för sig inte bara tongivande, utan legendarer inom samtida improvisationsmusik. Trots detta brinner de fortfarande för musikens inneboende kraft som de förmedlar med ett explosivt eftertryck. Nu kommer de till Halland för att under tre dagar arbeta fritt och kreativt med unga musiker. Ett samarbete mellan unga halländska musiker och etablerade världsartister, där experiment och innovation sätts i centrum. Mats Gustafsson Saxofon Mats is a Swedish saxophone player from Umeå, Sweden and a stalwart on the Scandinavian free jazz scene. He is known for his tonal belligerence and intensity when improvising. He first came to the attention of lovers of improvised music as part of a duo with Christian Munthe (started in 1986) and the band Gush (started in 1988). He has later played widely with musicians such as Peter Brötzmann, Joe McPhee, Paul Lovens, Barry Guy, Yoshimi P We, Derek Bailey, Magnus Broo, Otomo Yoshihide, Jim O'Rourke, Thomas Lehn, Evan Parker, Misha Mengelberg, Zu, The Ex andsonic Youth. Since the early 1990s Gustafsson has been a regular visitor to the United States, forming a particular affinity with Chicago musicians such as Hamid Drake, Michael Zerang and Ken Vandermark and recording for the city's OkkaDisk label. In addition to projects with musicians, Gustafsson has worked extensively with artists from the worlds of dance, theatre, poetry and painting. Gustafsson was awarded the 2011 Nordic Council Music Prize. Gustafsson currently lives in Gärsnäs, Skåne, Sweden and Vienna, Austria Ingebrigt Håker Flaten Bas Ingebrigt studied Jazz at the Music Consevatory in Trondheim, Norway (1992 1995) under the tutelage of bassplayer Odd Magne Gridseth. A professional musician since 1995, he continues to shape and refine his sound by embarking on extensive international tours with some of the most diverse and important improvisers on the circuit today. Most easily recognized for his contributions to the Pan Scandinavian groups, The Thing and Atomic, Flaten has also left his indelible mark in collabortive projects with musicians from the undergrounds of New York, Chicago, Austin, Houston and Mexico City. In addition to his work within both group and solo contexts (2004 saw the release of his first solo effort), Ingebrigt is also the seasoned bandleader of the Chicago based, Ingebrigt Håker Flaten Quintet as well as the recently formed project,the Young Mothers, a transcontinental group that had their debut at the 2011 South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin,Texas. Prolific and inventive,
Ingebrigt has participated on more than 100 recordings. Paal Nilssen Love Trummor Paal Nilssen Love is a Norwegian drummer, active in the jazz and free jazz genres. Nilssen Love was raised at a jazz club in Stavanger, run by his mother, and his father, who was also a drummer. In 1993, during jazz studies at the University in Trondheim, he formed the band Element which musically became a platform for several other groups with bassist Ingebrigt Håker Flaten and pianist Håvard Wiik and lead to collaborations with Iain Ballamy and Chris Potter. Relocating to Oslo in 1996, he took part in the forming of bands like Håkon Kornstad Trio, The Quintet and Frode Gjerstad Trio, as well as self initiated projects and collaborations with Swedish musicians such as pianist Sten Sandell and saxophonist Mats Gustafsson. In 1999, Nilssen Love played his first solo concert. Today his portfolio also includes Atomic, School Days, The Thing, Scorch Trio, Territory Band, FME, and various duo projects such as with reedmen Peter Brötzmann, Ken Vandermark, John Butcher, organist Nils Henrik Asheim and noise experimentalist Lasse Marhaug.
