6 We can reduce your costs with climate-friendly energy! At Industry Park of Sweden we have surplus energy from the production processes in the industry park. By recovering and refining the energy we can: reduce environmental impact reduce energy costs A large proportion of the industry park s electricity is produced internally and is derived from energy recovered from sulphur burning processes. Sulphur does not contain carbon and therefore generates no carbon emissions. Most of the surplus energy is recovered in the form of steam. When steam is used as a fuel or as part of various processes, it replaces the need for oil, natural gas or other fuels, thereby reducing the climate impact. Natural gas is available when there is a need for high-grade energy or as a supplement to our own supply of steam. Natural gas is a high-efficiency fuel that generates lower carbon emissions than oil. 7 energy Öresundskraft and IPOS join forces to reduce Helsingborg s CO2 emissions In the 1960s and early 70s, all Helsingborg s district heat came from fossil fuel oil. Coal was an important fuel right up until the mid-1990s. But since the mid-70s, the recycling of surplus energy from IPOS has meant that carbon emissions are on the decline. They continued to fall when Öresundskraft replaced a large portion of its fossil fuel with biofuel in the mid-1990s. Since the 1970s, carbon emissions from Helsingborg s district heating have decreased from around 300 g CO2/kWh to around 40 g CO2/kWh. Vi förser Industry Park of Sweden med kraft och energi! 12 We know logistics At Industry Park of Sweden, logistics is a prime area of investment: both inside the industry park and getting to and from it. The transportation and moving of raw materials and finished products need to be as efficient as the manufacturing process. We provide turnkey logistic solutions for our customers. Naturally this also covers dangerous goods. In our port we handle liquids, bulk and general cargo with a high level of efficiency. We operate our own warehouse and work closely with Interlink Logistik, a logistics company based at the industry park. We have a highly developed road and rail network with our own shunting station, access to trucks of all sizes for loading, offloading and warehouse management from simple-to-use forklift trucks to large container trucks. Our vehicle weighing equipment allows loads to be handled quickly and we issue type approval documents for vehicles. 17 port On-site port Industry Park of Sweden has its own weather-protected port, which has a depth of approx. 11 metres and a wharf approx. 400 metres long. The port can accommodate vessels up to 20,000 tonnes without a problem, and sometimes larger depending on vessel draft. The port has cranes, trucks/container trucks and loading/offloading equipment for bulk, liquids and general cargo. There is access to a silo, warehouse premises and parking space for containers, etc. We also provide a weighing service. The port is administrated and operated by Industry Park of Sweden and employs some 25 people, whose tasks include everything from handling pallet goods and special goods to loading and offloading bulk vessels, handling sea containers and the administration of equipment such as sanitation trucks and lifts. LNG s environmental benefits are just too significant to be ignored: 30 per cent less CO 2, 80 per cent less NO X and complete elimination of SO 2 and soot. 20 Kemira purifies water for you and the rest of the world Clean water straight from the tap is something we take for granted. Our water generally comes from inland lakes and normally undergoes a two-stage treatment before it reaches the consumer. Products from Kemira Kemi AB in Helsingborg are used to purify this water. They include ferric chloride, which collects and flocculates impurities in the water, which allow you to separate the smallest pollutants bacteria, viruses, algae, sand and mud. The purification process also reduces odour and taste. After being filtered, a small dose of disinfectant is added to the water to make sure it is potable. Drinking water is classed as a food and is therefore subject to strict regulations and rigorous inspections. One of Kemira s plants in Helsingborg manufactures products for purifying both drinking water and waste water. Its products are exported all over the world and help to protect its natural environment. Kemira s products help ensure that 6 million people in Sweden and 400 million people in the rest of the world have access to clean drinking water. A large proportion of these products come from Kemira Kemi in Helsingborg, the world s largest plant for manufacturing water purification products. 20

21 Customer cases TETRA s salt keeps dust and cars on the road Kemira is a contract manufacturer of different grades of calcium chloride for TETRA Chemicals Europe AB at Industry Park of Sweden. TETRA s plant has several synergies with Kemira s manufacturing operation and IPOS s port, which has led to an agreement through which Kemira will handle the operation of TETRA s plant. In Sweden there are many thousands of kilometres of gravel roads, which are vital for keeping rural parts of Sweden accessible. But how do you maintain a gravel road without wasting natural gravel and paying for costly labour time? The answer is dust-binding by using the various grades of salt that Kemira manufactures by contract for TETRA Chemicals Europe AB. TETRA s product is the most tried-and-tested and by far the most cost-efficient dust binding agent in the market. It is also a highly effective anti-skid agent and, with the right concentration and dose, is effective at temperatures as low as -30 C. 22 Yara manufactures feed phosphates in Helsingborg Yaras line of business is mineral substances that are used in different forms of animal feed. Yara extract the raw material (phosphoric acid) from Yaras apatite mine in Finland and process it for resale to animal feed manufacturers around the world. Yaras production process is closed. Yara has high-set environmental requirements and Yaras impact on the environment and our surroundings is very small. Yaras products calcium phosphates, magnesium supplements and special minerals are used for enriching different kinds of animal feed to make animals stronger and healthier. Strong, healthy livestock yields high-quality food products. Yara manufacture products for all agricultural livestock and for fish breeding and pets. Yara also has a smaller-scale production of feed acids that are used for preventing harmful microorganisms from growing in animals and feed. The production of feed phosphates in Helsingborg has a history that goes all the way back to Yaras current plant was built in 1966 but has over the years undergone extensive changes both in terms of the process and from the safety aspect. Yaras production complies with all ISO, OHSAS and GMP+ certification systems; this is vital for feed safety and traceability. Yara s cooperation with IPOS is vital for production. Yara buy raw materials via the port and buy natural gas, electricity, hot water, steam and compressed air from IPOS. Yaras products are loaded onto ships in the port to be exported all over the world. Alufluor är en av världens ledande producenter av aluminiumfluorid. 23 Customer cases Alufluor manufactures aluminium with reduced energy consumption Alufluor s plant in Helsingborg relies on its close proximity to a sea port. The plant manufactures the aluminium fluoride used by aluminium production plants around the world. Adding aluminium fluoride allows the process temperature to be reduced dramatically, which reduces energy consumption. With its port, logistics services and rail network, Industry Park of Sweden (IPOS) is an optimal partner for Alufluor. The link to IPOS s supply of natural gas is also important. Because even when you are saving energy for others, the manufacturing and drying of aluminium still requires its fair share of energy. We are seeing growing demand for our product and are planning to use the port and railway more extensively for our raw material purchases, says Alufluor s CEO, Anders Wyndhamn. While Alufluor is stepping up its manufacturing of aluminium fluoride, it is also helping its raw materials suppliers offload their waste products. This results in an interplay where Alufluor indirectly reduces their environmental impact. This is something which is unique to our manufacturing method, concludes Wyndhamn with satisfaction. 23

24 Interlink - IPOS s versatile logistics partner An industry park of IPOS s calibre relies on logistics solutions for its internal and external transports. Interlink functions as the hub. Products need transporting to and from the port, pallets of water purification products need loading onto lorries, railway cars and in containers. If you need help with stuffing or stripping containers, no assignment is too big or small. Interlink is the logistical extended arm for the companies at IPOS. An industry park is expected to deliver logistics services to customers 24 hours a day. This is where our partner Interlink does a splendid job, says Jan Bech-Sörensen, Managing Director of IPOS. Having offices, warehouse space, machinery and personnel available on-site shortens lead times and, with the cooperation with the port and its machinery, getting hold of a truck or other items of machinery of the right size is usually not a problem. 25 Customer cases SITA s unique washing plant means clean tanks SITA operates a washing plant at Industry Park of Sweden (IPOS) that cleans tanker trucks and containers. It is one of Europe s most modern and eco-friendly facilities and the only one of its kind in Sweden. The facility is equipped with machinery that minimises energy and water consumption. By using surplus heat from IPOS for cleaning the tanks, SITA can reduce its environmental impact considerably. Both IPOS and SITA are actively striving to reduce their emissions and this is a good example of an economical energy solution. By using surplus heat, SITA s energy consumption has decreased by the equivalent of 90 tonnes of oil a year. And there s no boiler to maintain. The facility is strategically located near the port s new approach channel which is being planned by City of Helsingborg. It is also the only plant in Sweden to offer the cleaning of railway car interiors, which increases the possibilities for companies based at IPOS to use railway transportation. 26 Brainstorming the start signal for Scandinavian Silver Eel s sustainable breeding It was during a brainstorming session about how to put the brackish cooling water from Industry Park of Sweden to good use that the eel breeding idea came up. The ideal water temperature for eels is around 23 C all year round. In 1985 tanks were put to the test in a pilot-scale project. The trials were promising. The eels thrived and grew rapidly in the warm water. Today there is a full-scale facility which produces more than 100 tonnes of consumption eels per year. The eels are imported from England in the form of glass eels (weighing 0.3 g/each), a large proportion of which would not have been able to grow in their natural habitat. To help boost the existing eel population in Scandinavian waters, a whopping 70% (approximately 3 million specimens) of all elvers that were bred in quarantine in Helsingborg are released into Swedish waters, with the support of Swedish authorities, commerce, the general public and the EU. The eels that had been in quarantine at IPOS are free from disease and thrive in our waters. 27 Customer cases Air Liquide a modern nitrogen plant for the food and electronics industries An old factory building made of traditional local bricks has been given a whole new lease of life. From the outside the building, which is leased by Air Liquide from Industry Park of Sweden (IPOS), looks the way it did many decades ago. On the interior, however, it has been transformed into a modern industrial plant that produces liquid nitrogen for the food industry. But nitrogen is also used as a refrigerant and protective gas by the electronics industry and in wine production. The applications for nitrogen are numerous: in the UK, for instance, it is used instead of carbonation for brewing beer because of the tiny, soft bubbles it produces. In health care, nitrogen is used for freezing blood plasma, among other things. At IPOS, Air Liquide was assured of getting a stable, reliable supply of energy, which is absolutely vital for the plant as it operates around the clock and stops very rarely. The two companies have worked closely together on the development of a new switching station next to the plant, a process for which IPOS supplies the cooling water. The collaboration allows us to make huge savings on electricity compared with using cooling compressors, which is the regular procedure. Instead we have simply hooked up to the IPOS cooling water supply using a nearby pipe. 27
