When is real high speed lines possible in Sweden? There must be a big long distance endpoint-market There must be big sub-markets between towns along the line There must be big demand for freight trains so there is a need for separation of freight and passenger trains KTH Railway Group Center for research and education in Railway technology - Railway development in Sweden 6 2010-05-18

Conclusions - four track Railway Group Separation of slower and faster traffic gives quadruple capacity By giving the fast trains their own tracks capacity is freed for freight trains and regional trains on the old double-track With trains that travel at the same speed and independently of each other, punctuality is greatly increased on both track pairs If the new double-track can be built with new routing, it can be built straighter to be able to operate trains faster and reach new markets This also reduces conflicts during construction time and even if it might be new difficult to acquire new land it is often cheaper KTH Railway Group Center for research and education in Railway technology - Railway development in Sweden 24 2010-05-18
