Swelogs Swedish Longitudinal Gambling Study En studie om spel och hälsa A study on gambling and health
Running over several years, Swelogs is the largest research program ever on the correlation between gambling for money and health in Sweden. The study is conducted by the Swedish National Institute of Public Health. Since the Swedish National Institute of Public Health, SNIPH, is commissioned to prevent problem gambling and its social consequences in Sweden. In order to develop preventive methods, we need to acquire more knowledge of the extent of gambling, who are the problem gamblers and what factors influence whether a person develops a gambling problem or not. The most recent larger Swedish study on gambling and health was conducted over ten years ago. To gain current knowledge of gambling in Sweden The Swedish National Institute of Public Health initiated the research project Swelogs, Swedish Longitudinal Gambling Study, in 8. The over-arching objectives of Swelogs are: to measure the prevalence and incidence of problem gambling, its change over time and how it compares with research results from other jurisdictions to describe problem gambling in relation to changes in gambling behaviour and environ mental factors to identify relevant target groups for preventive measures to analyze health related, social and economic consequences of problem gambling to identify risk factors and protective factors
