3 1 Beskrivning SLT09 är en helt ny typ av nivågivare för applikationer där det inte är möjligt eller där man inte vill ta upp hål i tanken, tex i pumpgropar. SLT09 bygger på en helt ny 2-sensorteknik med piezoresistiva trycksensorer. SLT09 består av en mätsond med diametern 35 mm. Denna har ett mätmembran i HastelloyC/Rostfritt stål för högsta motståndskraft mot korrosion. Mätsonden hänger i sin anslutningskabel. Sondkabelns standardlängd är 10 m, men kan på beställning fås i längder upp till 60 m. Sondkabeln är ansluten till elektronikkapslingen där all elektronik är monterad. I elektronikkapslingen görs även inkopplingen av matnings/signal-kablarna. SLT09 är försedd med högsta tänkbara skydd för EMC och åsknedslag. 1 Description SLT09 is a completely new type of level transmitter for applications where pressure connection in the bottom of the vessel is not possible or desirable, for exampel pump pits. SLT09 is constructed with a innovative 2-sensor technology. SLT09 has a submersible measuring probe with diameter 31 mm. The probe has a Hastelloy C diaphragm for highest corrosion resistance. The probe hangs in its cable. The cables standard length is 10 m but can on request be delivered in length up to 60 m. The probe cable is connected to the electronic housing where all electronics are placed. Connection of signal/supply cables are done in the electronic housing. SLT09 is equipped with the best possible protection against EMC and lightning. 2 Funktion SLT09:s dränkbara mätsond mäter vätskenivån i tex. pumpgropen med hjälp av en piezoresistiv absoluttryckssensor. Denna nivå kommer då att variera med atmosfärstrycket. För att kompensera för detta finns ytterligare en absoluttryckssensor monterad i elektronikkapslingen, denna mäter atmosfärstrycket. Elektroniken kompenserar därefter vätskenivån för variationer i detta tryck. Se blockshema i Fig 1. Fördelen med denna teknik är att mätningen blir säkrare eftersom det inte behövs något referenstrycksrör i sondkabeln. Detta rör har ofta fört in stora fel pga igensättning, kondens mm. Sondkabeln blir på detta sätt också enklare att förkorta/förlänga för användaren. This level will then fluctuate with the atmospheric pressure variation. To compensate for this variation there is another absolute pressure sensor, placed in the electronic housing and connected to the surronding atmosphere. See function in Fig 1. The benefit of this technique is that the measurement will be more accurate because there is no need for a reference tube in the probe cable. This tube has often caused big faults because of plugging or condensation. The probe cable is also easier to lenghten/ shorten for the user. 3

4 3 Beskrivning av Åskskydd: Inbyggt i SLT09 finns ett rejält åskskydd. Åskskyddet är dimensionerat för att klara åsknedslag i närområdet men klarar inte en direktträff av en kraftigare blixt. Skyddet är dimensionerat för att klara kraven för Klass 1 provning enligt IEC ka (10/350 us). Detta skydd räcker normalt till för alla applikationer. I speciellt utsatta installationer, där det ofta finns risk för att transmittern eller kablarna drabbas av direktträffar, kan skyddet behöva kompletteras ytterligare. Åskskyddet är utfört som ett trestegsskydd. Se Fig 2. Åskpulsen som kommer in i transmittern fångas upp av ett dubbelt gasurladdningsrör (V1), tre stycken transientskyddsdioder (D1, D2, D3) och två stycken varistorer (R1, R2). FL1, FL2 är genomföringskondensatorer och L1, L2 är drosslar för EMC skydd. Till elektronik To electronics 3 Description of lightning protection There is a good lightning protection built in to the SLT09. The lightning protection is designed to withstand a lightning stroke in close surrounding but can not withstand a direct hit of a strong stroke. The protection is dimensioned to fullfill the demands for Class 1 testing according to IEC ka (10/350 us). S +/- är ingång för matningsspänning och signalutgång 4-20 ma. T +/- är testuttag. This protection is normally enough in most applications. In specially exposed applications, where there is a risk for direct strokes on the cables or electronic housing, the protection might need reinforcement. The lightning protection is designed as a three step protection. See Fig 2. The stroke that enters the transmitter is catched by a double surge arrester (V1), three transient protection diods (D1, D2, D3) and two varistors (R1, R2). 7 5.4.2 Att tänka på To consider Beakta och säkerställ så instruktionerna i detta kapitel följs så noga som möjligt. Observe and make sure that the instructions in this chapter are followed as close as possible. För att uppnå lång och felfri drift med SLT09 finns en del viktiga faktorer som man bör tänka på vid val av givartyp och vid installation. Givare med piezoresistiva sensorer är dimensionerade för att tåla ett visst övertryck (se data). Om en givare utsätts för tryck som överskrider dessa gränser, oavsett om det är under en längre tid eller endast en kort tid, går sensorn definitivt sönder. Tänk på om det kan uppstå sådana övertryck i anläggningen och dimensionera givaren för detta. Mätmembranet är den mest utsatta och känsliga delen av givaren. Om mediet är korrosivt tänk på att välja rätt membran. Om det råder osäkerhet vid val av membran kontakta oss för rådgivning. Om de befintliga membrantyperna inte räcker till kan vi leverera givare med olika beläggningar på membranen, tex. teflon, epoxi mm. Kontakta oss för information. Även om ett membran fungerar bra mot ett korrosivt media kommer det ändå att korrodera till en viss del. Detta innebär på sikt att givarens mätning kommer att förskjutas (framför allt påverkas nollpunkten). Detta kan kompenseras med en underhållskalibrering eller omkalibrering. Givarnas elektronik- och kopplingsutrymmen är klassade för IP67. Se dock alltid till att använda rundmantlad kabel och att dra åt kabelgenomföringen ordentligt. Om givarna är monterade i en smutsig miljö, se till så att referensanslutningen mot atmosfärstrycket (se Fig 6) inte blir igensatt. I anläggningar med mycket vibrationer eller som vibrerar kraftig periodvis bör det undersökas om givarens prestanda räcker till. Det bästa är att mäta vibrationernas amplitud resp. acceleration och säkerställa så att dessa inte överstiger specifikationerna. To obtain longlife and faultless operation of SLT09 there are some important factors to consider when choosing transmitter type and at installation. Pressure transmitters with piezoresistive sensors are designed to withstand a specific overload (see data). If the pressure on the diaphragm exceeds these limits, irrespective if it is for a long or short time, the sensor will be broken permanently. Consider if such pressures will arise in the plant and choose the right type of sensor. The measuring diaphragm is the most exposed and easily affected part of the transmitter. If the media is corrosive consider choosing the right diaphragm material. If there is any uncertainty please contact us for advice. If existing diaphragm types are not sufficient it is possible to deliver transmitters with diaphragm coatings, for example teflon, epoxy, rubber. Please contact us for information. Even though a diaphragm material is sufficient for a corrosive media it will be slightly affected. This means that the measurement will be slightly changed over time (especially the zero point). This can be corrected by performing a maintenance calibration or a recalibration. The transmitters electronic- and electric connection housing is approved for IP67. Use round signal/supply cable and tighten the cable feed through firmly. Make sure that the electronic housing cover is tight. If the transmitter is installed in a dirty environment, make sure that the reference pressure connection (see Fig 6) always is open for the atmospheric pressure. In plants with high vibration levels it is important to secure that the transmitters performance is sufficient. The most certain is to measure the vibrations amplitude resp. acceleration and secure so that these levels not exced 7

8 Montera aldrig elektronikkapslingen direkt mot en kall eller fuktig vägg, lämna en luftspalt. Använd runda anslutningskablar och dra åt kabelgenomföringarna noga. Placera aldrig mätsondens kabel i närheten av kraftkablar. Säkerställ så att sondkabelns längd är så kort som möjligt. Montera alltid kapslingen så att kabelgenomföringen för sondkabeln placeras nedåt. Se till så att kapslingens lock tätar ordentligt. Utsätt inte sondens membran för onödig åverkan. Sänk inte ned sonden så djupt att den vilar på botten. I strömmande vätska, fäst sond och sondkabel mot tankväggen el.dyl. Högsta mediatemperatur är +80 grader C. Sondkabel i teflon kan fås på specialbeställning Lägesberoende specifications. Never place the electronic housing direct on a cold or damp wall, leave a gap. Use round signal/supply cable and tighten the cable feed through firmly. Never place the probe cable in close connection to high voltage cables. Make sure that the probe cable is as short as possible. Make sure that the electronic housing cover is tight. Make sure not to mechanically damage the diaphragm. Do not submerse the probe so that it stands on the bottom. Note that the highest media temperature is +80 C (+176 F). Always place the electronic housing so that the cable entry for the probe cable is directed downwards. In streaming or turbulent media fasten the probe and probecabel to the vessel or other. Probe cable in Teflon can be delivered upon request Orientation dependance Alla transmittertyper har ett visst lägesberoende med avseende på nollpunkten. Storleken av nollpunktsförskjutningen är avhängig av i vilken vinkel mätsonden monteras. Felet märks också mer ju lägre mätomfång transmittern är inställd för. Detta lägesberoende kan enkelt justeras bort genom att justera in nollpunkten (4 ma) i det läge transmittern ska monteras Nolljustering efter montage: När givaren monterats så som den ska användas kan nollan behöva justeras för att kompensera för lägesförändring (förändring i förhållande till fabrikskalibreringen) av mätsonden. 1. Anslut en lågohmig ma mätare till testuttaget. 2. Se till så att inget tryck är pålagt på membranet ( eller det tryck som ska motsvara 4 ma). 3. Justera utsignalen med Nollpotentiometern till 4 ma. Mätomfånget behöver inte justeras om det är fabriksinställt. OBS! när detta görs måste transmittern (mätsonden) befinna sig exakt i den position som den ska driftsättas i och trycket på membranet måste vara lika med omgivningstrycket (eller det tryck som ska motsvara 4 ma). All transmitters have a slight zero shift after mounting. The size of this zero shift depends on the mounting angle of the measuring probe. The zero shift is more noticeable with a small span. Zero shift is easily corrected by adjusting the zero point (4 ma) in the mounting porsition Zero adjustment after mounting: After mounting of the transmitter exactly as it will be used the zero output might need an adjustment because of the probe orientation dependance (if it differs from when it was factory calibrated). 1. Connect a low resistance ma meter to the test connection. 2. Make sure that no pressure is applied to the probe (or the pressure for 4 ma). 3. Adjust the output signal with the zero potentiometer to exactly 4 ma. It is not necessary to adjust the span if this is adjusted at delivery. NOTE! when the adjustment is done the transmitter (the measuring probe) must be in the exact mounting position and the pressure applied to the measurement diaphragm must be same as the ambient pressure (or the pressure for 4 ma). 8

9 Observera att relevanta standarder och regler för konstruktion och drift av elektriska system följs. Observera att installationskrav för Ex utrustning följs om så krävs. Förlägg inte signalkablar i närheten av strakströmskablar. Starkströmskablar producerar störningar i sin närhet vilka kan komma att påverka mätsignalen i signalkabeln Jordanslutning och kablar SLT09 är med konstruerad för att klara störningar både från radiofrekventa fält, pulser och överspänningar på ett mycket bra sätt. Det är dock viktigt att följa nedanstående rekomendationer vid installationen. Så som transmittern SLT09 är uppbyggd är det viktigt att installera elektronikhus, sond och sondkabel på ett riktigt sätt. Det är också viktigt att jordanslutning görs på ett sådant sätt så att störningar avkopplas och inte tillåts påverka mätningen. Observe the relevant safety standards/regulations for the construction and operation of electrical systems. Observe the relevant Ex regulations for installation if needed. Do not run signal cables close to power lines. Power lines produce interference in their near vicinity which impairs the signals transmitted on the line Grounding and cables SLT09 is designed to withstand noise from radiofrequent fields, bursts and overvoltage very good. Though it is important to follow the recommendations below at installation. Because of SLT09:s design it is very important to install the transmitters electronics housing, measuring probe and probe cable in a appropriate way. It is also very important to ground the transmitter in such a way that noise is suppressed and will not influence the measurement. Sondkabeln ska alltid göras så kort som möjligt. Placera alltid elektronikhuset så nära mätpunkten som möjligt. Matnings/signal kabeln (4-20 ma) är väsentligt mindre känslig för störningar än sondkabeln. Se till så att sondkabeln aldrig placeras i närheten av kraftkablar. Kraftkablar för växelspänning har ofta ett mycket kraftigt störfält i sin närhet vilket lätt kan påverka mätsignalen. (Signalen i mätsondens kabel är mycket låg och förstärks kraftigt i elektroniken varför även små störningar kan påverka mätningens kvalitet). Ofta finns frekvensomformare (för tex. motorstyrning) i de anläggningar där SLT09 installeras. Dessa kablar har också ett kraftig störfält i sin närhet. Även för matnings/signal kabeln bör ovanstående hänsyn tas i den mån det går. Fig 3 Schematisk beskrivning av jordanslutningar Fig 3 Schematic description of ground connections Make sure that the probe cable is as short as possible. Always place the electronics housing as close to the measuring point as possible. The supply/ signal cables (4-20 ma) is much more insensitive to noise than the probe cable. Never place the probe cable close to high voltage cables. High voltage AC cables have a big noise field surrounding them. This field can easily affect the measurement. (The signal in the probe cable is very low and highly amplified in the electronics so even small noise can cause bad measurement). If there is AC drive equipment (e.g. for electrical motor regulation) in the plant, secure so that these cables are separated from SLT09:s cable. Especially from the probe cable. These cables has a strong noise field of different frequensies surronding them. 9

10 Jordning ska alltid göras till jordplinten i elektronikhuset. Jordning kan också göras direkt till elektronikhusets chassi (jordplint och chassi är direkt anslutet till varandra). Unvik att jorda på flera punkter av transmittern. Detta för att undvika jordslingor som lätt kan fånga upp störningar. Kontrollera att jordpotentialen mellan sond och elektronikhus inte avviker från varandra. (U1, U2 och U3 i figur 3 bör vara lika) Om så är fallet kan denna potentialskillnad behöva utjämnas med extra jordledare. För att det inbyggda åskskyddet ska fungera såsom avsett är det också viktigt att jordanslutningen utförs på ett sådant sätt att ordentlig kontakt uppnås. Åskskyddet är uppbyggd så att kraftiga pulser ska ledas bort via jordanslutningen (se även avsnitt 3 Beskrivning av åskskydd). Förkortning av sond kabeln Sondkabeln kan enkelt kortas genom att demontera den från plinten i elektronikhuset och från kabelgenomföringen och därefter klippa den till önskad längd och skala den så som den var. Återmontera därefter kabeln. Var uppmärksam på att ledarna ansluts till korrekt plint (följ färgangivelserna noga). Var också noga med att sondkabelns skärmfläta ansluts koncentriskt till kabelgenomföringen (notera hur det var utfört vid demonteringen). Förlängning av sondkabeln Sondkabeln kan också enkelt förlängas. Utför demontering lika beskrivning ovan. Skarva ursprungskabeln med lämplig ny längd kabel. Använd orginalkabel (se Appendix 2 Tillbehör). Tillse att kabeln skarvas på ett fackmannamässigt sätt. Skarven bör inte placeras i mediet. Notera att kabeln inte har någon referenstrycksslang och på så sätt är enklare att skarva. Sondkabeln kan maximalt levereras i längder upp till 60 m och bör därför inte heller skarvas längre än så. Grounding should always be done to the grounding connection point or directly to the electronic box (ground connection point and box is internally directly connected to each other). Avoid grounding at more than one point on the transmitter. This is to avoid ground loops that easily can cath noise. Check so that the earth potential between probe and electronics housing is the same (U1, U2 and U3 in fig 3 should be the same). If these earth potentials differ there might be a need for an extra earth wire to equalize the potentials. To obtain the intended function of the lightning protection its important to perform the grounding so that a secure connection is established. The lightning protection is designed so that strong surges is conducted away to earth (see also chapter 3 Description of lightning protection). Shortening of the probe cable The probe cable can easily be shortened. Remove the cable from its connections inside the electronics housing and from the cable feed through. Cut it to desired lenght, strip it as it was and connect it. Observe that the cables is connected to the appropriate connection (follow the colour marking carefully) and that the cable shield is concentricaly connected to the cable feed through (note how it was done when disassembled). Lenghtening of the probe cable It is also easy to lenghten the probe cable. Performe the disassemblig as above. Connect new cable in desired lenght. Always use original cable (see Appendix 2 Accessories). Secure so that the cable are joint in a professional way. The splice should not be placed in the media. Note that there is no reference pressure tube in the cable and therefor is easier to lenghten. The probe cable can be delivered up to max 60 m and should not be lenghten more than this. 10

11 6 Elektrisk anslutning 6 Electrical connection För den elektriska anslutningen används en 2-ledar kabel. För in kabeln genom Pg 11 kabelgenomföringen in i transmitterns kopplingsutrymme (se Fig 4). Anslut ledarna till skruvplintarna märkta S +/-. Undvik felpolarisering (givaren är fullt skyddad för felaktig polarisering). Maximal ledararea är 2,5 mm 2. I anslutning till 4 20 ma anslutningsplintarna (märkt S ) finns ytterligare ett anslutningspar (märkt T ). Detta är avsett för test av givaren på plats. Transmitterns elektronik är utförd för tvåtråds överföring av mätvärdet. Detta innebär att samma ledare som överför mätvärdet samtidigt matar transmittern med spänning. Med utgångspunkt från spänningskällan måste all utrustning som är inkopplad på strömslingan vara seriekopplad. Anslut även alltid jordplinten till extern jordpunkt och ev. till kabelns skärm. Se också kapitlet Jordning. T +/- är avsett som testuttag. Till dessa kan en lågohmig ma (max 6 ohms inre resistans) mätare anslutas och visar då utsignalen. 7 Display Som tillbehör till transmittern finns display. Displayen ansluts i serie med matnings/signalkablarna, se Fig 5. Displayen monteras inuti transmitterns anslutningsutrymme och det befintliga locket ersätts med ett lock med fönster. Displayen är vid leverans konfigurerad enligt kundens önskemål. Som tillbehör finns en handenhet för konfigurering av displayen. 8 Driftsättning Transmittern är färdig för användning direkt efter montering och elektrisk anslutning. Connect to the screw-type terminals in the connection space in the electronics housing (see Fig 4). Avoid polarity reversal when connecting the cable (the transmitter is fully protected against wrong polarity). Observe the maximum cable CSA of 2.5 mm 2. In addition to the connector for the ma signal transmission cable (terminal pair S ) there is another connector for local test purposes (terminal pair T ). The electronic system for measured value transmission is realized as a 2-wire system, i.e. the same wire pair is used for the supply voltage and the output signal. Starting from the power source, all other devices in the measuring loop must be series-connected. 8 Commissioning Always connect the ground terminal as well. See also the chapter Grounding. T +/- is used as a test terminal. A low impedance current meter (max 6 ohm internal resistance) can be connected which shows the output current. 7 Display A display unit is available as an accessory. The unit is connected in series with the supply/signal cables, see Fig 5. The diplay unit is mounted inside the transmitters connection housing and the cover is exchanged for a cover with a window. The display is configured to the customers requirements on delivery. As an accessory a hand held unit for configuration is available. The transmitter is ready for operation immediately after mounting and 11

Om givaren är grunkalibrerad vid leverans är justeringsmöjligheterna Zero -5% till +18% och Span 50% till 100% Tidskonstanten är vid leverans inställd på 0,1 s. Special operating parameters of the transmitter SLT can be set to adapt the device to the measuring point, e.g. the measuring range. 8.1 Adjusting SLT09 See Apendix 4 for dissasembling etc. The SLT09 transmitter is adjusted by setting the relevant parameters directly on the device. Zero, span and time constant can be adjusted with straps, under the shielding box inside the electronic housing, and potentiometers through holes in the shielding box. See instructions on the shielding box for placing of straps. If the transmitter is standard calibrated at delivery the adjustment possibilities are (without changing strap position): Zero -5 % to +18 %. Span +50 % to +100 %. The time constant is set to 0,1 s at delivery. Settings Zero and span are set with straps and potentiometers, see figure 4. Inställning av tidkonstant Givarens tidkonstant ställs in med bygling på givarens kretskort (under skärmboxen). Tidkonstanten kan väljas till 0,1 sekund eller 3 sekunder. Observera att vid nyinstallation justeras endast nollpunkten enligt texten "Nolljustering efter montage" nedan. 1. Anslut givaren till spänningsmatning. Setting the time constant The time constant of the transmitter is selected with a jumper on the printed circuit board (under the shield box). The time constant can be set to 0.1 sec or 3 sec. Use the long time constant when it is necessary to suppress noise and interference in the measuring signal. Adjustment Upon delivery, the transmitter is adjusted according to the specific requirements from the customer. Adjustment may be needed after beeing repaired or as maintenance and can be done according to position 1-6 below. Note that it is only necessarily to adjust zero, according to position 4 below, at new installations. 12

Upprepa punkt 4 och 5 åtminstone en gång eftersom zero och span har en liten inbördes påverkan. 9 Nollpunkt/Span/Överbelastningstålighet 1. Connect the transmitter to power supply. 2. Put the strap in the position that correspond to desired calibration area, concering zero and measure range. 3. To measure the output signal, connect a low resistance (R< 6 ohm) amperemeter to the test terminal. 4. Connect the pressure which shall constitute the minimum measuring value. Adjust the zero value using the screw Z until the output signal has a reading of 4.00 ma. 5. Connect the pressure which shall constitute the maximum measuring value. Adjust the measuring span using the screw S until the output signal has a reading of ma. 6. Efter en längre tid i drift kan utsignalen vara utanför specifikationerna beroende på åldring, nedsmutsning eller drift. Om så är fallet är det lämpligt att rengöra och justera transmittern så att utsignalen åter ligger inom specifikationerna. Justering utförs enligt Avsnitt Maintenance The transmitter series SLT09 is wear-free and maintenance-free. It is recommended to check on a regular (i.e. once a year) basis that the signal conversion is still within the tolerance limits. After a longer operating time signal conversion may be outside the tolerance limits due to aging, dirtying or drift. In this case, the device may be cleaned and readjusted. 18 4 Demontering och montering (se Fig 6) Vid demontering av elektronikenhetens lock, skruvas de fyra skruvarna (9) ur tills locket kan tas bort. Vid demontering av skärmburken (6) skruvas de fyra skruvarna (7) ur. Slangen (5) tas bort från anslutningen i lådan. Under denna skärmburk finns byglingar för span, zero och tidskonstant. Glöm ej att montera slangen vid återmontering av skärmboxen. 4 Disassembling and assembling (see Fig 6) To remove the electronic housing cover, unscrew the four screws (9) until the cover can be removed. To remove the shield box (6), unscrew the four screws (7). Remove the tube (5) from its connection in the box and lift the shield box.
