Added English translation. The course syllabus is valid from autumn semester 2011 Prerequisites 1KD151 Art and Visual Studies II, 30 credits, or the equivalent. Expected learning outcomes relate and apply theoretical and methodological perspectives in the field of artand visual studies, independently work on a limited, scientific assignment. Module 1. Art and Visual Study Theory and Method, 7.5 credits present various methods and theories used in art and visual studies. Module 2. Literature course, 7.5 credits describe and analyse objectives, theories and methods as well as results and scientific credibility with regard to two academic theses in art and visual studies. Module 3. Independent project, 15 credits
formulate a valid research aim of relevance to the subject of choice, select and motivate relevant theories and methods, discuss individually based problems and critically assess sources and scientific literature, critically and constructively assess and discuss an individually produced written project as well as some other student's essay in art and visual studies. Content This course introduces a selection of art and visual study texts, representative of different schools, and of particular interest to the course from a methodological and theoretical standpoint. This course also introduces models for analysis and interpretation of texts, design and shaped environments. An independently produced project is also part of the course in the form of an academic written project. Module 1 Art and Visual Study Theory and Methods 7.5 credits This module offers an introduction to current and historical theories in the subject, as well as a number of methodological models. The module also presents various models for analysis and interpretation. The module seminars and excursions are obligatory. Module 2 Literature Course 7.5 credits Students will read two theses in art and visual studies, which are selected in consultation with the tutor and course teacher. Module 3 Independent Written Project 15 credits Students will conduct a scientifically valid and presentable survey, that is presented in writing comprised of approximately 50,000 figures (equivalent of approx. 30 pages). The topic is selected in consultation with the tutor. The module also includes oral defence of the written work and opposition on someone else's work, i.e. critically and constructively assess and discuss an equivalent piece of work. Type of Instruction Teaching may be in the form of seminars, excursions, individual tutoring and project ventilation. The individual achievements of each student are important parts of the course. Examination The course is assessed with the grades Fail (U), Pass (G) or Pass with Distinction (VG). In order to pass the course, students need to meet the expected learning outcomes. Examination occurs through project ventilation combined with oral and written presentations. Further specification of the forms of examination is provided in the study guide. A resit is offered within six weeks (within the framework of regular terms) and the number of resits is limited to five (in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance 6 chap. 21 ).
Course Evaluation When the course has finished, an evaluation is compiled. The results are reported back to students and then archived according to the rules of the School.
