Notes to the table (1) For the Faroe Islands, Finland and Sweden, figures for 2000 refer to the population on the 31.12.2000; for Iceland on the 1.12.2000 and for Denmark, Greenland and Norway, on the 1.1.2001. Population figures for the islands (that constitute only a part of their respective municipalities) refer to 1.1.2000 for Denmark, 31.12.2000 for Finland, 31.12.1998 for Sweden. Population figures for Swedish parishes refer to 31.12.2000. (2) Denmark: total area; Finland and Sweden: land area; Norway: land area excluding Svalbard and Jan Mayen; Greenland: ice free area (the total area of Greenland is 2.2 million km²), Iceland: total area. Iceland is covered by 23 805 km² of vegetation area, of which the Reykjavík region comprises 552 km², and the other parts 23 253 km². The workforce of the fish processing industry, which has its own special insurance scheme, providing a supplementary compensation, is not included in these figures. Greenland: Estimates from Statistics Greenland for the first quarter of 2001, the number of unemployed persons as a share of all Greenland-born persons between 15-59 years of age living in urban settlements. (4) Register data. Faroes: Employment change defined as labour force minus unemployed persons. (5) Ts = Transportstödet, Denmark: Støtteområde B* = no investment aid for isolated initiatives in the private sector. Private sector support is only given when an overall framework programme has been established. (6) Åland has its own regional policy separate from the national Finnish one.
