I april 2011 trädde EN54-16 och EN54-24 i kraft, vilket kortfattat innebär att ljudinstallationer i publik miljö skall vara kopplat till brandlarm och ha talat utrymningslarm, samt uppfylla vissa krav. Vidare måste systemet aktivt övervakas, där så väl kablar som högtalare, förstärkare och elektronik övervakas, med automatisk backuplösning för så väl ström som förstärkare.
