2 Expected learning outcomes After the course the student should be able to - to present a general understanding of different organizational models - understand the development of different main organizational theory schools and their development as well as an understanding of the conditions for development of these schools - understand different group- and role theories - demonstrate knowledge of different leadership theories and models and how these models differ - prove insight into the foundations for organizational learning - understand the preconditions for developing sustainable organisations taking into consideration the importance of ethical and pluralistic factors - on a basic level understand social and behavioural science research and investigation methods and statistics, as well as elemenatary science theory - prove insight into basic theoretical knowledge of the behavioural science field with emphasis on staff and working life issues - understand and discuss organizations of industry and commerce, as well as the labour market development and function - broadly discuss and explain the relationship between and the interaction between individual, group, organization and society - understand change aspects from different perspective (individual, group, organization and society) - broadly understand and discuss psychosocial issues in working life - prove insights into the foundation of working life psychology, with emphasis on individuals personality, development, motivation, emotions - demonstrate practical skills in conversation therapy and methods for solving conflicts - account for and discuss education as a scientific branch of learning from a historical- and social viewpoint with special emphasis on learning in the working life and lifelong learning, in which gender and ethnicity are integrated - have an understanding of learning and formation of knowledge in practical working- and everyday life as well as in formal education contexts on an individual-, group- and organisational level - understand and disuss different types of knowledge assessments and evaluations of education - problemise and critically analyse different types of learning, skill maintenance, competence development, and staff training in different organisations - plan and conduct an individual learning situation in theory and practice - discuss the Swedish Public sector in terms of organisation, management, control and functions 2

3 Course contents The course comprises the following modules Module 1. Introduction, 1,5 credits Introduction to the study programme and to university studies, study techniques and group project educational methodology. Presentation of mentor enterprises/organizations. Information about what personnel work implies. Module 2. Organization and Human Resource Management, 7,5 credits This module is meant to constitute an introduction to the study programme of Human Resource Management. The purpose is to let the student get into contact with organization and personnel issues in a comprehensive and introductory way. Through this introduction the student will be given certain basic cognitive abilities but also a more general idea of what organization management and development/dynamics may imply. Module 3. Introduction to Methodology, 7,5 credits An orientation of principles and applications within social science research. The basics of qualitative and quantitative data collection, adaptation and analysis and practical application through laboratory work. Elementary science theory and scientific method with application to knowledge and research of working life in a historical, social group and individual perspective. Module 4. Sociology, 7,5 credits An orientation in sociological and social psychological basic concepts and theories. The basic features of some comprehensive theory traditions. Applications to Swedish society structure and society change. The connections individual group organization society are elucidated as well as equality of opportunity issues. The module also gives an introduction to working life sociology. Module 5. Social Psychology, 7,5 credits The module gives an introduction to social psychology. Basic social psychological terms, perspectives and theories are discussed, with emphasis on socialization, culture meeting, deviant behaviour, values and communication within groups and organizations. Module 6, Psychology, 12 credits The module gives an introduction to psychology. Basic psychological terms, perspectives and theories are discussed The course also discusses psychosocial issues in working life And gives foundation of working life psychology, with emphasis on individuals personality, development, motivation, emotions The student gives the opportunity to practice conversation therapy,methods for solving conflicts, group psychology and self knowledge. Module 7. Education, 10,5 credits Education issues in a historical and social perspective focused on the Swedish education system related to working life and life-long learning. In-service training and staff education. Various education and teaching models in theory and practice. Laboratory items in the form of holding a lesson by oneself. 3

4 Applicatory task of in-service training efforts within a company. Module 8. The Public Sector and Public Economy, 6 credits The course treats central issues in economics such as the formation of prices, unemployment, inflation, and globalization. In addition, the course analyzes the organization and management of the Swedish public sector and the distribution of public expenditures among different public activities. The management and control system in the Swedish Public Sector will also be analysed and discussed. Assessment of the student achievements is carried out through written and/or oral tests or through a combination of such tests and current examination as well as through handing in of solutions of trainee work cases. For students who haven t passed at the ordinary examination occasion a renewed test will be arranged in close connection to the ordinary test. Type of grades The grades are Pass with Distinction, Pass or Fail. On module 1, only the grade Pass is awarded.
