Fastställande Kursplanen är fastställd av Handelshögskolans fakultetsnämnd 2006-11-20 och senast reviderad 2010-07-01. Den reviderade kursplanen gäller från och med 2010-09-01. Utbildningsområde: Samhällsvetenskapligt 100 % Ansvarig institution: Företagsekonomiska institutionen 2. Inplacering Kursen ges som fristående kurs i företagsekonomi inom avancerad nivå och läses efter genomgången utbildning på grundnivå om 180 hp varav minst 90 hp inom huvudområdet företagsekonomi, inkl kandidatuppsats 15 hp. Kursen läses i kurspaket tillsammans med FEA417 Logistik, magisteruppsats 15 hp. Kursen kan även ingå i Handelshögskolans civilekonomprogram. Huvudområde Företagsekonomi Fördjupning A1N, Avancerad nivå, har endast kurs/er på grundnivå som förkunskapskrav 3. Förkunskapskrav För tillträde till kursen, i kurspaket tillsammans med FEA417 Logistik, magisteruppsats 15 hp, krävs minst 180 hp varav minst 75 hp i företagsekonomi inklusive kandidatuppsats om 15 hp eller motsvarande. För studerande inom Handelshögskolans civilekonomprogram gäller de krav som där har ställts upp för antagning till kursen. 4. Innehåll Kursen består av två teorikurser à 7,5 högskolepoäng vardera. Studenten väljer två av följande delkurser: Transport Policy and Management 7,5 högskolepoäng Fundamentals of Logistics 7,5 högskolepoäng Logistics Supply and Demand Chain Management 7,5 högskolepoäng Retailing in the Marketing Channel 7,5 högskolepoäng
2/ 7 4.1 Transport Policy and Management 7,5 hp The management perspective is used for actors on both sides of the market; carriers and shippers, even if the carriers' problems are given more weight and consideration in the course unit. The following topics will be covered: The role and importance of transportation in society from economic, environmental, social and political points of view. Transport regulation and policy. Overview of the different modes of transportation and their combinations focusing on market structure, competition, operating and service characteristics, and cost structure and rates. Carrier management in terms of costing and pricing in transportation, rate making in practice and carrier operations and terminals. Information management and technology. Shipper/carrier network strategies. After completing the course unit the student will be able to 1. Compare and contrast the modes of transportation. 2. Examine and critically analyse policy issues in transportation. 3. Examine and develop costs, pricing, and strategies in transportation. The qualitative targets for a Master of Science (60 credits) in Business Administration relate to the learning outcomes of the course. Qualitative targets Knowledge and understanding 1+2+3 Skills and abilities 1+2+3 The course unit consists of lectures, compulsory guest lectures, literature seminars and writing one or several research reports. The lectures present various theories and applications which are either covered by the course literature or forming extensions from the literature. The research paper deals with selected topics from lectures and literature and implies that the students prepare themselves in groups. Further details will be given in "Instructions for Seminars", which will be available at the start of the course unit. A written exam will be given at the conclusion of the course unit. The exam also includes concluding all research reports, which will be graded by the instructor. The grade from the course unit will be based on the written exam given that the research report, and the seminar assignment is passed (i.e. it is necessary to get a passed for the report and the seminar to be able to pass the course unit).
Due to limited resources, the seminar and reports can only be assessed at fixed examination sessions during the course period. 3/ 7 The grades are: Fail (Underkänd, U), Pass (Godkänd, G) or Pass with Distinction (Väl godkänd, VG). To Pass the course, all learning outcomes must be passed, that is out of the exam's maximum points 50 % will be necessary to get a Pass. To obtain Pass with Distinction, 75% of maximum points are required. 4.2 Fundamentals of Logistics 7,5 hp The course unit deals with the core components of business logistics and their contributions to logistics and business output, the relationships between logistics and other company functions and the significance of cross functional coordination within the company, the value of, opportunity for and significance of inter-organisational coordination in supply chains. After completing the course unit the students will be able to 1. describe the core components of business logistics and know how they interact to create the output from the logistics function in a company. 2. describe the anatomy and reflect around the significance of cross functional coordination between logistics and other company functions and produce written reports and oral presentations. 3. analyze the need of and potential for inter-organisational logistics coordination and produce written reports and oral presentations. The qualitative targets for a Master of Science (60 credits) in Business Administration relate to the learning outcomes of the course. Qualitative target Knowledge and understanding 1+2+3 Skills and abilities 2+3 The examination consists of a written exam (worth 76 points) and of writing and presenting of several smaller cases (worth 24 points). In the cases, theories from business logistics and strategic supply chain management shall be presented, illustrated and categorised. The written assignments will be given throughout the course and constitute part of the final grade of the course unit. The written exam will be given at the completion of the course unit.
4/ 7 Learning outcome 1 and 2 will be examined through a written exam. Learning outcome 2 and 3 will be examined through written cases. Due to limited resources, the cases can only be assessed at fixed examination sessions during the course period. The grades are Pass with Distinction (väl godkänd, VG), Pass (godkänd, G) or Fail (underkänd, U). For Pass on the course unit, 50% of the total of the points that are possible to achieve will be needed and the student must receive Pass on the written exam as well as on the written cases. For Pass with Distinction, 75% of the total of the points that are possible to achieve will be needed. 4.3 Logistics Supply and Demand Chain Management 7,5 hp This course unit presents the mission, business processes, and strategies needed to achieve integrated logistics management in what is referred to as supply chains, demand chains or value added chains. The course unit deals with vertical systems of actors, activities and resources involved in the process of making goods and services available for use or consumption. This is the inter-organizational and organizational setting for logistics and transport. Strategic alliances and other collaborative arrangements in logistics are discussed as examples of such systems developed by intensified competition. Global sourcing and the more traditional marketing channels will also be discussed and analysed. The students will predominantly work in small groups with cases and other assignments. After completing the course unit the student will be able to 1. present a comprehensive description of existing logistical practices in a global society written and orally. 2. describe ways and means to apply logistics principles to achieve competitive advantage and complete a case assignment and an oral presentation. 3. analyse and discuss conceptually how logistics can be integrated as a core competency in enterprise strategy in a network setting and complete a case assignment and an oral presentation. The qualitative targets for a Master of Science (60 credits) in Business Administration relate to the learning outcomes of the course. 5/ 7 1-3 are assessed through a written examination and written case assignment. A written examination will be given at the close of the course unit (weight 60% of the final grade) together with an assessment of the student's performance on case assignment (weight 40% of the final grade), which also includes presentation at a seminar. Due to limited resources, the case assignment and seminar can only be assessed at a fixed examination session during the course period. The grades are Pass with Distinction, (väl godkänd), Pass (godkänd, G) or Fail (underkänd, U). For Pass on the course, 50% of the total of the points that are possible to achieve will be needed. For Pass with Distinction, 75% of the total of the points that are possible to achieve will be needed. For both Pass and Pass with Distinction the case assignment has to be passed and participation in the case assignment, including presentation at a seminar, is obligatory. To pass the course, all learning outcomes must be passed. 4.4 Retailing in the Marketing Channel 7,5 hp This course unit deals with the structural change in the retail industry and with the strategy of major retailers in a marketing channel context. The course unit also analyses the interdependencies between logistics and other functions and phenomena in retailing. The course unit covers in store logistics, warehousing, packaging, reverse logistics and retail location. Logistics information systems based on point-of-sales data and activity based costing are studied. Finally, logistics problems and solutions related to electronic trade, efficient consumer response, category management and other new business processes are discussed. The course unit is given in English. The students will occasionally work in small groups with cases and other assignments. After completing the course unit the students will be able to 1. detect, identify, evaluate and relate the modern retailing focusing industry structure, retail business strategy, and logistics from a channel perspective. 2. interact within a group of students in order to answer actual questions, discuss phenomena and solve problems stated in the field of retailing and marketing channels. This is done by the group produces a written report and implements an oral presentation and opposition within the current course content. 3. identify, explain and summarize a current research topic in its own individual consolidated article and actively discuss this in groups. 6/ 7 Qualitative targets Knowledge and understanding 1+2 Skills and abilities 2+3 Learning outcome 1 will be examined by a written examination as well as an individual assignment. 2 and 3 will be examined by presentations of written reports, which should be a link between the theoretical discussions held within the course and by an application made by the students. Generic skills are included as written submission, oral presentation and the opposition. These elements are evaluated within the framework of the course outcome. Due to limited resources, learning outcomes 2 and 3 can only be assessed at a fixed examination session during the course period. The grades are Pass with Distinction (Väl godkänd), Pass (Godkänd) or Fail (Underkänd). For Pass on the course unit, pass is required on the three learning outcomes. For Pass with Distinction on the course unit, pass is required on all learning outcomes and at least 75% of the sum of the maximum points of the written exam. 5. Mål Kursens övergripande lärandemål är att studenten efter avslutad kurs skall ha uppnått: Goda kunskaper om logistiksystems struktur och beteende. God förståelse för hur logistik kan bidra till ökad effektivitet och konkurrenskraft för företag och samhällen. Goda kunskaper i utformning och ledning av logistiksystem och logistikprocesser. Kursens lärandemål operationaliseras och länkningen till examinationsformer görs på delkursnivå. 6. Litteratur Se separat litteraturlista. 7. Former för bedömning Se respektive delkurs. Student som har underkänts två gånger i prov, har rätt att hos Företagsekonomiska institutionen ansöka om byte av examinator. 8. Betyg Betygsskalan omfattar betygsgraderna Underkänd (U), Godkänd (G), Väl godkänd (VG).
7/ 7 För betyget G krävs betyget G på båda delkurserna om 7,5 hp vardera. För betyget VG krävs betyget VG på minst en av två valda delkurser samt lägst G på resterande delkurs. 9. Kursvärdering Varje delkurs utvärderas av studenterna genom skriftliga utvärderingsformer. 10. Övrigt Undervisningsspråk: engelska. Kursen gavs första gången höstterminen 2007. Överlappning med andra kurser kan förekomma. Sådana kurser kan inte tillgodoräknas i samma examen.
