Interior Ballistics concerns itself with events inside a gun from primer ignition through the projectile's departure from the muzzle. Exterior Ballistics deals with the motion of the projectile after it leaves the gun. The science that deals with the motion and flight characteristics of projectiles. It can be divided into three phases: 1) Internal ballistics 2) Exterior ballistics 3) Terminal ballistics. The main aspects of ballistics that concern the rifleman are bullet velocity, stability, kinetic energy, trajectory and penetration/wounding effect. American Airgun Field Target Association, the governing body for field target in America. The measure of a bullet's precision; the term describing a firearm's ability to shoot consistently where aimed. A group of moving parts used to cock, compress air (in some models), load, and fire an air gun. The combination of the receiver or frame and breech bolt together with the other parts of the mechanism of a sniper rifle or other firearm that normally performs loading, feeding, locking, firing, unlocking, extracting, and ejection. The adjustment on a riflescope that allows the parallax to be adjusted so that the target or quarry is in perfect focus. Typically this adjustment is on the front of the riflescope and has distance marking on the adjustment bell. Elitist colloquialism for airguns intended for the discerning "Adult" market. Such guns are too powerful, too heavy, too large or too expensive for the youth and beginner markets. Adult airguns guns are manufactured from the finest materials finished to the highest standards. Shooting accuracy, reliability and pride of ownership are expectations of these airguns. The holding tube or bottle used for holding air under pressure for a precharged pneumatic airgun. Typically the reservoir resides in a tube under the barrel or in a removable bottle. A gun, which propels a projectile through its barrel by use of, compressed air or carbon dioxide gas (C02). Gunpowder is not used in this type of gun. ( Bullet ) abbr. AJHP. One or more loaded cartridges consisting of a primed case, propellant and, with or without, one or more projectiles, depending on the type of weapon used. Code number that identifies a particular quantity of ammunition from one manufacturer. It is usually printed on the ammunition case and the individual boxes 1 / 13

Ammunition rundnos Ammunition spetsnos Annealing Anvil AO. Arrestopin Arsenal Assault rifle Automatic Automatic safety Baffles Ball Ball powder Ballistic coefficient in which the ammunition comes. A quantity of cartridges made by one manufacturer under uniform conditions from the same materials. Ammunition within a lot is expected to perform in a uniform manner. The process of making brass more malleable by controlled heating followed by rapid cooling. Usually applied to the neck and shoulder area of cases which are to be reformed to a caliber or design different from the original (makes them less prone to cracking during the reforming process). This should not be done to the head of the case, since reducing the strength of this part may result in failures. Internal part of Boxer primer. The anvil is raised in the center to form a cone, and has three legs, which rest against the bottom of the primer pocket, spanning the flash hole. It offers concentrated resistance to the firing pin as it dents the primer, crushing the priming compound between them, which is ignited by the resulting sharp friction. Adjustable Objective. A manufacturing or storage facility for arms and ammunition. Best known in the United States for their development work are Frankford Arsenal, Pica tinny Arsenal and Watertown Arsenal. A term often applied to the collection of firearms owned by an individual or a group. A military rifle intended purely for one-man operation and equipped to provide both Semiautomatic or full-automatic fire by means of a selector switch or other firecontrol device. The Soviet AK 47 and the U. S. M 16 typify today s assault rifles. They are chambered for an intermediate cartridge, have barrels under 20 inches, make extensive use of plastics and stampings, use gas operation and locked breeches, have magazine capacities of 20 to 30 rounds, weigh from six to 10 pounds and are quite compact. A firearm design that feeds cartridges fires and ejects cartridge cases as long as the trigger is fully depressed and there are cartridges available in the feed system. Actuation of the mechanism may be from an internal power source such as gas pressure or recoil, or external power source, such as electricity. A device on some firearms intended to return the safety to the "On" (safe) position When the action is opened. Barriers to contain bullets and to reduce redirect or suppress sound waves. Baffles are placed either overhead, alongside or at ground level. In military nomenclature this term refers to the bullet. A propellant with spherical granules, usually denser than extruded powders, hence better for small cases. Developed by Western Cartridge Company around the start of World War II. (BC) A mathematical factor representing the ratio of the sectional density of a bullet to its coefficient of form. Simply put, BC expresses a bullet s length ( relative to diameter ) and aerodynamic shape, thus indicating its ability to overcome air resistance in flight. The higher its BC factor, the better a bullet retains its velocity and energy, and the flatter its trajectory. Most bullets have BCs between.100 and 2 / 13

Ballistik Barrel Barrel band Barrel erosion / barrel wear Barrel liner Barrel time Barreled action Battered cartridge BB BB Gun Bead sight Bearing surface Beat Beavertail Fore-.700. Higher BCs are required for long-range shooting. That part of a firearm through which a projectile or shot charge travels under the impetus of Powder gases, compressed air, or other like means. May be rifled or smooth-bore. Metal band that secures the barrel to the fore-end of a full-length rifle stock. The gradual eroding away of the rifling lands immediately ahead of the chamber throat, resulting in accuracy loss. The intensely concentrated powder flame burns metal surface away at this point. Thin steel tube usually permanently inserted into the barrel to either change the caliber, restore the gun, or to make the gun more functional when the barrel is formed from softer material. The interval between the time the bullet starts to leave its seat until it reaches the muzzle. This is significant because is it linked to recoil time, which affects the point of impact. A combination of barrel and receiver or frame and breech bolt, together with the other parts of the mechanism by which a firearm is loaded, fired and unloaded. The cartridge is deformed in such a way that it will not chamber in the rifle. Popular projectile in the US; literally a steel Ball Bearing, usually copper coated. In Europe, usually a lead or similar soft metal round ball. Steel BB's weigh 5.42gr (0.35g); lead BB's weigh about 8gr (0.52g). Lead balls are slightly larger (0.17") than steel BB's (0.16"). It is never wise to shoot steel BB's in European made airguns unless specifically recommended by the manufacturer. Especially be careful with piston airguns because the BB may be undersized and will not cushion the piston slamming home. They may also cause damage to the rifling. Lead balls are usually quite acceptable if they are a push fit in the barrel and can give good accuracy. They are much easier to load than the traditional pellet. Traditionally American. Usually a "toy" gun that shoots BB's usually intended for youths and carnivals. Rarely applicable to "Adult" airguns. In recent years a number of European rapid fire CO 2 pistols have appeared. Most use lead ball ammunition; some use steel BB's. The small cylindrical top portion on some forms of front sights. That portion of the bullet surfaces which bears on, or touches, the bore. The sniper's operational area where established control measures (boundaries, limits) define his territory. The forward part of a one-piece stock. (Shotgun) a larger, wrap-around forearm as 3 / 13

Also called forearm. Refers to the fit or fitting of the metal parts of the barrel and receiver with the wood stock. To open the mouth of a case slightly in order to seat a bullet more easily. Also used in reference to a rifle barrel which is worn at the muzzle (belled muzzle)? A rimless cartridge case with a raised integral belt around the case just ahead of the extractor groove to provide a positive head spacing surface while retaining the extractor groove (which facilitates use in Mauser actions). This type of construction is generally used on large capacity magnum type cartridges. A rifle designed for optimum accuracy while being shot from the shoulder and supported by a specifically designed table (rest). Shooting event utilizing rifles and ammunition designed to deliver extreme accuracy at long ranges. A primer containing no internal anvil. In the Berdan system, the anvil is an integral part of the cartridge case, formed by a conical projection rising from the floor of the primer pocket, and flanked by (normally) twin flash holes. Berdan cases are not convenient for reloading, as depriming requires special equipment and is timeconsuming. Some claim this to be more accurate, since the twin flash holes ensure more even ignition of the powder. An embankment used for restricting bullets to a given area or as a dividing wall between ranges. Also backstop, baffle. A two-legged support attached to the fore-end of a rifle, used mainly for long range and/or accurate shooting. The earliest form of propellant, characterized by the huge cloud of white smoke produced. It is reputed to been made by the Chinese or Hindus. First used for guns in the 13 th Century. It is a mechanical mixture of potassium or sodium nitrate, charcoal and sulphur. High in saltpeter, hence extremely corrosive to barrels if residue is not immediately cleaned out. Replaced around the turn of the century by the cleaner and faster-burning smokeless propellants. It is still used by antique firearm (or replica) enthusiasts. A low-pressure propellant: the firearms were not as strongly built as modern ones, hence should not be used with nitro powder/ammo. Condition where the exit pupil of a scope is smaller than the pupil of the shooter, which results in the target image forming on only part of the eye, with a surrounding black ring. This makes it more difficult to focus on the target. It is a tube, with over-caliber inside dimensions, added to the front of a barrel to extend the sight radius. Normally used in target shooting with short-barreled weapons. Where the primer has fallen completely out of its pocket when the cartridge is extracted after firing. The chemical oxidation to color ferrous metal parts various shades of blue or black. Bullet of tapered base or truncated conical base design, which raises the ballistic coefficient factor by reducing the aerodynamic drag, providing greater stability at subsonic velocities. Drag partly comes from the effects of cavitations (turbulence) and the progressive reduction of the diameter toward the rear of the bullet allows the air to fill in the void. Originally designed for extreme range machine guns barrages, boat tails offer some ballistic advantage on the target range at 800-1000m, as most match-type bullets have boat tails to help flatten trajectory. They have little practical use at shorter (LE/hunting) distances, as few modern cartridges drop below the speed of sound at these shorter distances. A firearm in which the breech closure is: in line with the bore at all times; manually reciprocated to load, unload and cock; and is locked in place by breech bolt lugs engaging abutments usually in the receiver. There are two principle types of bolt 4 / 13

The inside of the barrel of a gun. The interior of a barrel forward of the chamber. The inside of a firearm's barrel. In rifled firearms the bore diameter is the original dimension of the barrel before the rifling grooves are cut or swayed. Internal diameter of a barrel measured from the tops of diametrically opposed lands, i.e. the smallest internal diameter. If the lands are not opposed, the diameter of a circle inscribed to touch the tops of the lands. It is the inside diameter of the barrel before the rifling is cut. A method of aligning a barrel on a target by aiming through the bore. May be part of the sight alignment procedure. When sighting in a scope tools like a collimator can be seed. Cartridge case with a neck diameter smaller than its body diameter, hence creating a shoulder. Primer with a 3-legged internal anvil, permitting use of a single, central flash hole in the case head. Such cases can be conveniently deprimed by means of the decapping pin in standard reloading dies. Term used to refer to metallic cartridge cases, taken from the material that they are most commonly made from. (Actually, cartridge bronze.) Slang for cartridge cases. Process of initial use of a NEW rifle/barrel, by alternately firing and cleaning, a progressively larger number of shots, until a certain number has been reached. This process must be completed before load development for the rifle is started, and/or before the rifle is sighted in for a specific load. One such process is as follows: - Clean before firing - Clean after every shot (w/o the bore brush) for the first 10-20 rounds - Clean after every 5 shots for the next 20-40 shots. Clean after every 10 shots for another 20-40 shots. - Shoot 20 shots without cleaning before sighting in for good. I've seen a few other methods with different progressions in the number of shots/cleaning. I don't think it matters exactly. The rear end of the barrel where the pellet is loaded. The part of the action, which contacts the rear of the cartridge; the rear end of the barrel. The center ring is a "10" or "bulls eye" A firearm built with an extra thick walled barrel that adds weight to the muzzle and reduces recoil. Used primarily for target shooting or varmint hunting. The object, which is propelled towards the target. This term is often incorrectly used to describe a loaded round of ammunition (cartridge). The ensuing confusion has led to the use of the superfluous term bullet heads. The design of the bullet differs for various applications. Term used to describe the measure of a bullet s fall after it crosses the line of sight for the second time, i.e., beyond the zero or sighted-in range, due to the effect of gravity. Any device that is integral to the rifle telescope that is designed to compensate for the bullet's trajectory. In target shooting, the aiming point or center of the target. Rapidity with which a powder burns, relative to other powders. The burning rate will dictate the type of firearm it can be used in, as well as the application. (Handguns) Bottom part of the grip. The diameter of a projectile, the distance between the lands in a rifled barrel, or the bore diameter in a smoothbore barrel. The interior diameter of a rifle or pistol barrel. The complete unit of ammunition, including the projectile, case, powder and primer. The rear portion of the gun barrel into which a cartridge is inserted for firing. One adjustment of the windage and elevation turrets on a riflescope. The distance one click changes the point of impact depends on the minute of angle rating of the riflescope. Example, a scope with a 1/4" click adjustment would change the point of impact approximately 1/4" at 100 yards. Moving the rear apertures in different directions makes sight adjustments for wind and sun angle. The amount of change is measured by "clicks" turned. The spotter assists the sniper by calling out sight corrections, such as "three clicks to the right." Gevär som drivs av kapslar med CO 2 gas Airgun powered by Carbon Dioxide (CO 2 ) from a compressed liquid source. CO 2 boils from a liquid state to a gas as the gun is charged. Gaseous CO 2 propels the projectile when the gun is fired. Usually multi shot per charge of CO 2. CO 2 typically produces 500 psi at 32F (0C) and 1000 psi at 85F (29C). This provides a typical operating pressure of 750 psi in airguns. The temperature - pressure sensitivity poses design and performance problems for guns used outdoors; very well suited for indoor shooting in a temperature-controlled environment. Shooting many shots rapidly causes the boiling gas to reduce the temperature of the reservoir and thus lowers the pressure. A favourite power source for inexpensive airguns and repeater action replica guns, especially pistols is the Crosman "Powerlet" / CO 2 12 gram bulb. These CO 2 bulbs are very convenient power sources but are relatively expensive compared to "bulk CO 2 " decanted from large containers into a reservoir in the airgun. Match grade CO 2 guns typically use bulk CO 2 and may have bulb capability as a backup. The pinnacle of modern airguns for precision and shooting balance. The class of airguns used in Olympic competition. Exceptional accuracy with modest power. Competition air rifles usually produce 5fp to 6fp (6.78J to 8.13J) muzzle energy. Pistols usually produce 3fp to 4.2fp (4.07J to 5.69J). Accuracy measured in hair widths. Favoured power systems are PCP, single-stroke pneumatic and bulk CO 2. "Recoilless" spring power plants have largely gone out of fashion. A shot accidentally fired on a target assigned to another shooter. The ignition and detonation of low flash point lubricants due to the high temperature generated during the rapid compression of air in a spring-piston air gun. Fire passes through the flash hole from the pan to the main charge, firing the gun. 2. The hole between the primer pocket in a metallic cartridge and the portion of the cartridge holding the powder charge. A unit of work; the energy required to lift one pound one foot. A multiplier (also called the coefficient of reduction), which relates the shape of a bullet to the shape of the standard projectile, used to prepare a particular ballistic table. Foot Pound: measure of energy (work). Metric: Joule (J). 1 fp = 1.3558 J A foot pound is the amount of energy required to lift one pound weight one foot off the floor. Feet Per Second: measure of speed. Metric: Metres per Second (mps). 1 fps = 0.3048 mps. We commonly refer to "fps" as velocity. Velocity is a vector quantity, the rate of change of position in a given direction. Whilst the projectile has velocity, all we can measure and report is speed, that is: the time taken to travel between points. An unrifled portion of the bore in front of the chamber. The gas strut was pioneered by Theoben in the UK and they supply them for aftermarket conversions of several models of UK and German HW air rifles. The strut consists of a rod and piston in a pressurised, sealed chamber. It replaces the 7 / 13

Gasfjäder gr Grain Grooves Group/group size Head height Headspace Hold over/under Hollow point Innercylinder Jakt steel spring in piston airguns. The compression and release characteristics of the gas strut are different to the traditional spring. Most noticeable are: less mechanical noise during cocking and discharge; less perceived piston bounce and "recoil"; and possibly longer service life than a spring. Gas strut units are usually two to three times the cost of a good quality steel spring and the overall benefits are debatable. My BSA Supersport was "smoothened" considerably by fitting a Theoben gas strut. Grain: measure of weight. 7000 gr per pound. Metric: Gram (G) 1 gr = 0.065 g The smallest unit of the British and U.S. system of weights. One-pound avoirdupois equals 7,000 grains. Swaged impressions or cuts spiraled through a bore to rotate projectiles. The distribution of bullets on a target fired with a single aiming point and sight setting. Group size is expressed as the distance between centers of the farthest holes and is most easily determined by measuring the extreme spread from outside to outside and subtracting one bullet diameter. The height of a bullet from its shoulder to the tip of its point The fit of a cartridge in a chamber measured as the distance from breech face to that part of the chamber, which stops the cases forward movement. Insufficient headspace hinders complete chambering; excessive headspace permits case stretching or separation. Changing the point of aim either above or below of the target (without adjusting the sights) to adjust for the trajectory of the pellet. A type of bullet with a hollow cavity formed into its nose, designed to expand when it hits a target. The use of hollow points is banned in international warfare by the Hague Convention of 1899 (NOT the Geneva Convention, which covers the use of poison gases and treatment of POWs.) Abbreviated as "HP."

Kentuck windage Changing the point of aim either left or right of the target (without adjusting the sights) to adjust for wind effects on the pellet. Laddbult Lands Those portions of the bore not cut away by rifling grooves. Lane Lock time M.O.A. Magazine Magnification Magnum Magnum Airgun Malfunction Match avtryck Metallic sight Mil dots Mil-dot heat treated (HT) Minute Of Angle (MOA) A shooting position/station in a field target competition. The amount of time between when the trigger is pulled and the gun goes off. Generally, the faster the lock time the better, because this makes it easier to shoot accurately. In order to obtain the fastest lock time, some guns have been built which set off the primer via an electric impulse, rather than through mechanical means. Minutes Of Adjustment, Posi-Grip Fingertip Turrets to adjust for windage and elevation. Simply unscrew the turret cap and adjust with finger and thumb and listen for the positive click. A device for holding cartridges to be loaded into a repeating gun's chamber. A magazine can be a fixed, non-removable part of a gun, or it can be a detachable box. Sometimes improperly referred to as a clip. The power rating of a riflescope indicated by the symbol "x". A 24x riflescope makes the target appear twenty four times closer than it actually is. From the Latin for "more." It's a term applied to certain cartridges, which generate higher velocity and energy when compared to other rounds firing bullets of the same diameter. E.g., the.357 Magnums shoots bullets at much higher velocities than the.38 Special (which actually shoots.357" bullets). Basically, it's a marketing term. Colloquialism for any air rifle producing something over 10fp (13.56J) of muzzle energy. The typical US advertising measure was the airgun should capable of driving a pellet over 1000 fps. It has usually proven difficult to find a flea weight pellet capable of attaining 1000 fps with reliability and accuracy. Another interpretation of the term is for "export" models of European air rifles that are originally designed for 12fp, but have been tuned to provide a few more foot pounds for the US market. A gun or ammunition's failure to perform; not firing when the trigger is released. Justerbart avtryck med inställning både för känslighet som avtryckspunkt. Non-magnifying devices on the front and rear ends of a firearm used to assist aim normally diopters Markeringar på hårkorset i kikarsikten för att bättre kunna snabbkorrigera för olika avstånd och vindavdrift. Optical coatings reduce reflection both internally and externally and thereby increase the amount of light that reaches the eye, improving target brightness and contrast. This is an angular unit of measurement, which is approximately 1.1" at 100 yards. This term is typically used in defining the click adjustments on a riflescope. The arc subtended by an angle of one minute (1/60th of a degree) at any range, 9 / 13

The front end of the barrel from which a projectile exits. Food pounds of energy of a projectile at the muzzle of a firearm. The energy of a projectile as it departs from the muzzle of a gun. Derived from the formula: 0.5 x mass x velocity squared. Units are fp (foot pounds) or J (Joules). Muzzle energies may range from 0.5fp (0.65J) for inexpensive BB pistols, to 5.5fp (7.46J) for sporting spring pistols and competition rifles and up to 40fp (54.23J) for extremely powerful PCP sporting rifles. The majority of European sporting air rifles are legally limited to 12fp (16.27J) with US export versions ranging up to 16fp (21.69J). FAC rated British airguns are rated at between 20fp (27.12J) and 30fp (40.67J). The speed of a projectile at the muzzle of a firearm. (Industry standard is 15" from muzzle.) Justering av hårkorset till olika avstånd till målet A condition that occurs when the image of the target is not focused precisely on the reticle plane. Parallax is visible as an apparent movement between the reticle and the target when the shooter moves his head or, in extreme cases, an out-of-focus image. Many scopes have a special range focus to adjust for parallax (adjustable objective). PreCharged Power. Gevär som drivs av förkomprimerad gas Pre-Charged-Pneumatic airgun. The projectile is propelled by compressed air supplied from a high pressure reservoir charged from a SCUBA tank, hand pump or other external source. Compressed air is released when the gun is fired. Usually multi shot per charge of air. Many are fitted with multi-pellet magazines. Operating air pressure is usually between 2000psi to 3000psi (13788kPa to 20682kPa) from a SCUBA tank charge. The most powerful modern airguns are PCP's. It is also a favourite energy source for Competition / Match grade pistols and rifles because of the consistency and ease of use between shots. There is practically no recoil to upset the shooter. The major disadvantage (besides charging with air) is relatively high noise. Sound moderators are commonly fitted where legally allowed. A type of air gun projectile made from lead. A lead or soft, heavy alloy projectile, typically of a "Diabolo" or wasted / shuttlecock shape. Jaga skadedjur tex. råttor, möss, kråkor, duvor m.fl. A gun that has a short barrel and can be held, aimed, and fired with one hand. Plinga Plinking Pneumatic airgun 11 / 13 Skjuta på måltavla. Informal, non-competition shooting at a variety of fun targets. A type of air gun, which utilizes the principle of, stored compressed air or gas. Divided into two sub-categories: single stroke or multi-pump pneumatics and compressed C02/air pneumatics. Pneumatiska gevär Där finns det huvudsakligen två typer där det ena är ett pumpgevär som man får pumpa mellan varje skott och reservoargevär som har en luftbehållare som räcker till 20-250 skott beroende på energin och volymen i behållaren. Dom fungerar genom att en "hammare" slår upp en ventil som öppnar en kort stund och släpper högkomprimerad luft till pipan där kulan sitter. Point of impact (POI) Precharged pneumatic (PCP) Primer Prone psi Pump-Up Gun Range finding Recoil Rekord avtryck Rekyl Remaining energy Rifling Rifling The place that the projectile (pellet) hits when the airgun is discharged. An airgun that uses precompressed air as the means of propulsion. Typically PCP guns are charged to 3000 psi from a SCUBA tank or hand pump. That part of a cartridge, which is struck by the gun's firing pin, detonates, and thus ignites the powder charge. There are two main types of priming systems currently in use - rim fire and center fire. In a rim fire cartridge, e.g..22s, the priming compound is contained in the hollow rim. In a center fire primer, the compound is in a small metal cup inserted into the base of the cartridge case. There are two types of center fire primers. The first, or Boxer primer, is made up of the cup and the anvil, and the priming compound sandwiched between the two. The other, or Berdan, omits the anvil from the primer; instead, it is integral with the cartridge case. "Lying down" shooting position. Pounds per square inch: measure of pressure. Metric: Pascal (Pa) or Kilopascal (kpa) 1 psi = 6894.7 Pa or 6.894 Kpa. Airgun powered by air compressed by a pump integral to the gun. Usually all of the compressed air is discharged when the gun is fired for a single shot per air charge. Using the adjustable objective on a riflescope to determine the distance to a target or quarry. While looking at the target, the adjustable objective is turned until the target is in clear focus. The distance is then read from the adjustable objective. The rearward motion or "kick" of a gun on firing. Recoil in shooting is the practical effect of Newton's Third Law of Motion: for every action there is and opposite and equal reaction. A projectile's energy in foot pounds at a given range. Spiral grooves and lands in the barrel bore that provide a stabilizing spin to a projectile so that it will be more accurate in flight. The spiral grooves in the bore of a rifled firearm. The rotation they impart to a projectile stabilizes in a flight Grooves and lands forming a longitudinal twist down the barrel of a gun. Such guns are called rifles. Pistols most usually have a rifled barrel, however, many rapid fire air pistols are "smooth bore" (i.e. not rifled) because they shoot BB's or lead balls.

A concept created by eminent gun writer Col. Jeff Cooper. A scout rifle, generally, is a bolt action carbine firing a medium power round suitable for taking large game (e.g.,.308), fitted with a long eye-relief telescopic sight mounted on the barrel, and a back up set of iron sights. The transference of the kinetic energy of a bullet to animal tissue or other mediums. The projection of a bottle necked cartridge case from the neck to the case body; or, the point at which the head of a projectile joins the cylindrical rear portion. Mechanical, optical, or electronic devices used to aim a gun. Carl Zeiss nr 11 är som riktmedel 1A men där sidostolpar är koniska med en spets in mot mitten Single stroke pneumatic airgun Slug True Mil-dot A type of pneumatic airgun which uses one stroke of a lever to compress and store enough air in a reservoir or chamber for one shot. Vernacular for Pellet. Originally may have referred to lead projectiles of a blunt bullet shape, similar shape to "slugs" used in shotguns. 12 / 13

Utryck The "slug" shape has reappeared in the contemporary "Dynamic" non-lead airgun projectiles. Spring Gun (also: Airgun powered by a compressed metal spring or gas strut driving a piston, which is Piston Gun) usually cocked in a single stroke. Some variable cocking stroke piston airguns are available. Some may have multi-shot magazines. All are single shot per piston release. The major disadvantage is spring "recoil" or piston jump on discharge occurring before the pellet has left the muzzle. This can upset accuracy and discourage novices. Spring-piston An air gun, which uses a manual lever or other device to cock a spring-loaded piston airgun which compresses air at the instant of firing. The compressed air that propels the projectile is not stored in a reservoir prior to firing. Spännarm Separat arm för att spänna fjädern. Finns på gevär med fast pipa. Stock The wooden, metal, plastic or fiberglass portion of a rifle or shotgun, to which the barrel, action, trigger assembly, etc. are attached. Simply unscrew the turret cap and adjust with finger and thumb and listen for the positive click. Finger adjustable turrets (windage and elevation adjustments) on a riflescope. Typically they are marked with a numeric scale for quick adjustments. Ten-ring The innermost ring of the black section of the target. Throat Lead or free bore; the unrifled portion of the bore immediately in front of the chamber. Generally very short. Trajectory The flight of the pellet after it leaves the barrel. The pellets flight is an arc. How much of an arc depends on the pellet weight and velocity. Transferportshylsa Munstycke som reglerar luftmängden / skott på PCP gevär typ FX Twist The rate of spiral of the grooves of a rifle barrel expressed in length of barrel per revolution. Velocity The speed of a projectile expressed as distance per unit time. Youth Airguns Colloquialism for airguns intended for the youth or novice market. Such guns are characterized by low cost, lightweight, smaller frames and stocks and are easy to cock and load by someone of smaller stature. Typified by BB and pellet guns of low to moderate muzzle energies. Zero In shooting, the sight setting at which point of impact and given point of aim coincides at a given range. The distance at which the airgun is sighted in at. Zero is a reference to the trajectory of the pellet. Example, if you sight in your gun at 40 yards, your Zero point is now 40 yards. Zero shift A movement of the point of impact at the Zero point after the airgun has been sighted in. 13 / 13
