Praktik 10 veckor New York 10 veckor Stockholm, hösten 2009 Platsen: IKFF samarbetar med WILPF:s kontor i New York i ett praktikprogram med syftet att ge praktikanten en inblick i hur IKFF arbetar både nationellt och internationellt samt en närmre inblick i FN-systemet. Praktikplatsen är obetald och vi ser därför helst att praktiken är en del av din utbildning. Vi förväntar oss att du kommer att arbeta heltid både i Sverige och i New York samt att du själv ansvarar för praktiska detaljer som boende etc. Praktikperiod: augusti december 2009. Praktiken inleds med 10 veckors arbete i New York, följt av 10 veckor i Stockholm. Uppgifter: Arbetsuppgifter varierar beroende på aktuella projekt. Generellt sett innehåller tjänsten informationsarbete, analysarbete, lobby- och påverkansarbete samt medlemskontakt. Även vissa administrativa sysslor ingår. Praktiken i New York sker inom Peacewomen-projektet, med uppgifter som uppdatering av informations databaser och sammanställning av information kring frågor rörande kvinnor, fred och säkerhet. Praktiken kommer även att präglas av aktuella konferenser, ämnesfrågor mm. inom FN, tex generalförsamlingens öppnande under hösten. I Stockholm deltar praktikanten i kontorets löpande aktiviteter: informationsarbete, analysarbete, lobby- och påverkansarbete samt medlemskontakt. Uppgifterna varierar beroende på aktuella projekt. Även vissa administrativa uppgifter kommer att ingå. Vi förväntar oss även att du efter praktikperioden kommer att var aktiv som informatör inom IKFF inom de områden som du arbetat med under perioden. Sista ansökningsdag: 1 april 2009 INTERNSHIP JOB DESCRIPTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES The PeaceWomen Project takes on 4 to 5 interns each semester. Interns are assigned both general and specific responsibilities. The Project now has 4 separate internships for which specific responsibilities are designated: 1) Peacekeeping Intern 2) Resolution & Report Watch Intern 3) Security Council Intern 4) Website Intern In addition, each of these interns bears general responsibilities in relation to the website, office administration and general support to the PeaceWomen Project Associates. Each intern is expected to complete the internship contract included in the Welcome Pack and to work with the PeaceWomen Project Associates to complete a specific work plan for the period of the internship. The general and specific responsibilities for interns are set out below.
Website: The work of interns on the website is organized according to the regional breakdown that frames the information on the website. This regional breakdown was introduced when PW entered into the web partnership with UNIFEM s Women, War, Peace web portal. The regional breakdown is changed each time there is a new intake of interns so as to account for time availability, language skills, regional expertise and interest. We also try to ensure the intern designated as the Peacekeeping Intern has countries in her assigned region which are hosts to Peacekeeping missions. Interns are responsible for posting news, resources and initiatives for their respective regions and also responsible for posting calendar items, international news and other items which they find or which are forwarded to them for posting by the Project Associates. Regional Assignments / Posting Each intern will be provided with a copy of the semester s regional assignments. The regions/ countries for which interns are responsible for posting are the following: West Africa: Liberia and Sierra Leone, Cote D Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea- Bassau, Nigeria N. Africa: Western Sahara E. One of the Project Associates (at present Sam Cook) is responsible for intern supervision overall and for dealing with general issues, scheduling etc. Both of the Project Associates will, however, send additional items and answer queries regarding posting of items. General Administration & Support The intern welcome pack sets out information on the WILPF UN office and general responsibilities around the office. In addition to these, interns are expected to provide general support to the Project Associates in relation to the tasks with which they are engaged from time to time including attending meetings, taking notes and performing administrative tasks. Specific Internship Responsibilities: Peacekeeping Intern Areas of Responsibility: 1) Updating of gender and peacekeeping pages on the website including: a. Daily posting of news, resources and events to the gender and peacekeeping pages; b. Updating contact information for peacekeeping gender units c. Assisting Gender & Peacekeeping Project Associate with maintenance and improvement of peacekeeping pages 2) Assist Project Associate with monitoring Peacekeeping events including the sessions of the Special Committee on Peacekeeping Operations (C34) through: a. attendance of meetings b. compilation, analysis and posting of statements and gender language in statements c. posting general information on peacekeeping events 3) Track status of peace support operations and communicate with SC intern in this regard 4) Collaborate and support other interns where responsibilities overlap 5) Provide other assistance on Peacekeeping matters as required from time to time Resolution & Report Watch Intern 1) Monitor the Security Council Website and communicate with the Security Council intern for new SC resolutions and reports
2) Download and save SC resolutions and reports to the PW server as they are released 3) Analyze resolutions and reports for gender and women, peace and security issues and language 4) Update Resolution and Report Watch ( how to document available on the server) including by: a. Extracting relevant language on a country and thematic basis b. Including language in online and hard copy of Resolution and Report Watch 5) Assist Project Associate with summary and analysis of language 6) Collaborate and support other interns where responsibilities overlap 6) Provide other assistance on Resolution & Report Watch matters as required from time to time Security Council Intern 1) Monitor the Security Council website, Security Council Report (NGO) website and news sources for new developments in relation to countries on SC agenda with particular focus on countries where there are peace support operations 2) Download UN Daily Journal for upcoming reports, resolutions and thematic debates and inform Project Associates of items of interest 3) Assist in development and maintenance of tracking spreadsheet for internal monitoring of status of conflict of countries on the Security Council Agenda noting, for example, peace negotiations, ceasefires, elections, resurgence of conflict. 4) Collaborate with Resolution and Report Watch Intern and inform when new SC resolutions or reports are available and notify RW and PK interns when there are developments regarding issues such as the status of peace support operations 5) Collaborate with Project Associates and website intern to develop and maintain Security Council web pages. 7) Collaborate and support other interns where responsibilities overlap 6) Provide other assistance on Resolution & Report Watch matters as required from time to time - Collaborate with Project Associates and PeaceKeeping Intern to develop new PK / SC web page links - Audit of what is currently on SC, history and analysis, Women and the UN, Whose Responsible for Implementation pages
