Swedish statutes in translation (Svenska författningar i översättning till främmande språk) Ds 2001:7 (Ministry Publication Series), Government Offices, Prime Minister s Office Preface Translations of Swedish laws and ordinances are required in any number of contexts. Ministries and government agencies may need them in contacts with their European counterparts and in other international contexts or when general information about Swedish legislation is called for. Companies, organisations and legal practititioners also need translations of statutes. Over the years a number of government agencies and organisations in Sweden have collected translations and statutes and compiled lists of these documents. The Prime Minister s Office published one such list in 1984. Since then eight revised versions have followed. This one makes the ninth issue. The list is largely based on material sent to the Prime Minister s Office via ministries and government agencies in response to requests from the Directors-General for Legal Affairs at the different ministries. The translations were commissioned by ministries, government agencies, business organisations and international bodies. In some cases the list refers the reader to translations that have been published in books or periodicals. The list does not claim to be complete. The translations do not always give the formulation that is in force today. The Prime Minister s Office therefore requests interested parties to submit information about new translations or about translations not included on this list The list shows which languages the statutes have been translated into. How to use this publication Structure This list is based on the register of the Swedish Code of Statutes (Svensk författningssamling, SFS) and the principles that apply to that register. In other words, it consists of a chronological list with a translation of the titles in English, as well as a Swedish and English subject index. However, the Constitution and fundamental laws and special codes are listed at the beginning. Date of issue Only statutes that were listed in RIXLEX (the parliamentary public database) on 1 November 2000 are included in this list. However, the reader is asked to observe that amendments may have been made in the Swedish statutes after the most recent translation or foreign language revision was published. Please pay special attention to the year of issue noted in the right-hand column next to each item. Accessibility Most of the translations are available at the library at the Prime Minister s Office.
