Interior Ballistics concerns itself with events inside a gun from primer ignition through the projectile's departure from the muzzle. Exterior Ballistics deals with the motion of the projectile after it leaves the gun. The science that deals with the motion and flight characteristics of projectiles. It can be divided into three phases: 1) Internal ballistics 2) Exterior ballistics 3) Terminal ballistics. The main aspects of ballistics that concern the rifleman are bullet velocity, stability, kinetic energy, trajectory and penetration/wounding effect. American Airgun Field Target Association, the governing body for field target in America. The measure of a bullet's precision; the term describing a firearm's ability to shoot consistently where aimed. A group of moving parts used to cock, compress air (in some models), load, and fire an air gun. The combination of the receiver or frame and breech bolt together with the other parts of the mechanism of a sniper rifle or other firearm that normally performs loading, feeding, locking, firing, unlocking, extracting, and ejection. The adjustment on a riflescope that allows the parallax to be adjusted so that the target or quarry is in perfect focus. Shooting accuracy, reliability and pride of ownership are expectations of these airguns. The holding tube or bottle used for holding air under pressure for a precharged pneumatic airgun. Typically the reservoir resides in a tube under the barrel or in a removable bottle. A gun, which propels a projectile through its barrel by use of, compressed air or carbon dioxide gas (C02). Rundnos ammunition ger en väldigt bra precision även på avstånd och är i stort sett helt dominerande i FT skytte i dag. brukar oftast inte ge någon vidare precision och den har ofta ett högre luftmotstånd än rundnos ammunition. Men det händer att vissa gevär kan ge en fin precision med spetsnos ammunition även fast det hör till ovanligheterna. The process of making brass more malleable by controlled heating followed by rapid cooling. Jämför med att kasta en liten sten och sedan försöka kasta en ping pong boll lika långt. Vid lika mynningsenergi får man dock betala för detta med en lägre utgångshastighet. Tvärsnittsarean: En hög area ger dålig BC. Ju större ytan är, desto större motstånd möter den förstås i luften. Formfaktorn: En intressant egenskap. Hög formfaktor ger hög BC. Sämst faktor har en vanlig flatnosad diabolokula, medan en rundnoskula som Eley Wasp ger hög faktor och därmed hög BC. Om man inte är ute efter att stansa runda hål i papp (som tävlingsskyttarna) skall man således välja en rundnoskula som ger flackare kulbana och mindre vindavdrift. Lead balls are usually quite acceptable if they are a push fit in the barrel and can give good accuracy. They are much easier to load than the traditional pellet. Traditionally American. Usually a "toy" gun that shoots BB's usually intended for youths and carnivals. Rarely applicable to "Adult" airguns. In recent years a number of European rapid fire CO 2 pistols have appeared. Most use lead ball ammunition; some use steel BB's. The small cylindrical top portion on some forms of front sights. That portion of the bullet surfaces which bears on, or touches, the bore. Berdan cases are not convenient for reloading, as depriming requires special equipment and is timeconsuming. Some claim this to be more accurate, since the twin flash holes ensure more even ignition of the powder. An embankment used for restricting bullets to a given area or as a dividing wall between ranges. Also backstop, baffle. A low-pressure propellant: the firearms were not as strongly built as modern ones, hence should not be used with nitro powder/ammo. Condition where the exit pupil of a scope is smaller than the pupil of the shooter, which results in the target image forming on only part of the eye, with a surrounding black ring. This makes it more difficult to focus on the target. It is a tube, with over-caliber inside dimensions, added to the front of a barrel to extend the sight radius. Normally used in target shooting with short-barreled weapons. Where the primer has fallen completely out of its pocket when the cartridge is extracted after firing. The chemical oxidation to color ferrous metal parts various shades of blue or black. This type of air gun allows the firing of multiple shots without recharging. Moving the rear apertures in different directions makes sight adjustments for wind and sun angle. The amount of change is measured by "clicks" turned. The spotter assists the sniper by calling out sight corrections, such as "three clicks to the right." Shooting many shots rapidly causes the boiling gas to reduce the temperature of the reservoir and thus lowers the pressure. A favourite power source for inexpensive airguns and repeater action replica guns, especially pistols is the Crosman "Powerlet" / CO 2 12 gram bulb. These CO 2 bulbs are very convenient power sources but are relatively expensive compared to "bulk CO 2 " decanted from large containers into a reservoir in the airgun. Match grade CO 2 guns typically use bulk CO 2 and may have bulb capability as a backup. The pinnacle of modern airguns for precision and shooting balance. The class of airguns used in Olympic competition. Exceptional accuracy with modest power. Competition air rifles usually produce 5fp to 6fp (6.78J to 8.13J) muzzle energy. Pistols usually produce 3fp to 4.2fp (4.07J to 5.69J). Accuracy measured in hair widths. Favoured power systems are PCP, single-stroke pneumatic and bulk CO 2. Metric: Metres per Second (mps). 1 fps = mps. We commonly refer to "fps" as velocity. Velocity is a vector quantity, the rate of change of position in a given direction. Whilst the projectile has velocity, all we can measure and report is speed, that is: the time taken to travel between points. An unrifled portion of the bore in front of the chamber. Banan består som regel av ett antal skjutstationer med 2-3 mål på varje station, avståndet varierar mellan yards (9-45meter) och storleken på killzonen varierar mellan 12-45mm i diameter. AAFTA (American Airgun Field Target Association) rekommenderar följande för expertnivå: 12mm - max avstånd 25 Yrds (23m) 19mm - max avstånd 35 Yrds (32m) 25mm - max avstånd 45 Yrds (41m) 31-45mm - max avstånd 50 Yrds (45m) Genomsnittligt avstånd på 27-29m och dom mest förekommande storlekarna på killzone mellan 25-37mm. The gas strut was pioneered by Theoben in the UK and they supply them for aftermarket conversions of several models of UK and German HW air rifles. The strut consists of a rod and piston in a pressurised, sealed chamber. It replaces the 7 / 13

The compression and release characteristics of the gas strut are different to the traditional spring. Most noticeable are: less mechanical noise during cocking and discharge; less perceived piston bounce and "recoil"; and possibly longer service life than a spring. Gas strut units are usually two to three times the cost of a good quality steel spring and the overall benefits are debatable. My BSA Supersport was "smoothened" considerably by fitting a Theoben gas strut. Theoben's gasfjäder system använder sig fortfarande av en pistong men istället för att vara driven av en stålfjäder så drivs den av en gasfjäder. Fördelarna jämfört mot en konventionell fjäder är flera. Till att börja med så sparar man ett par hekto i vikt. Och pga att gasfjädern inte har samma "efter chock" som en vanlig fjäder så är avfyrningscykeln nästan helt utan vibrationer. Gasfjädern har också en snabbare "lock-time" dvs. den tid som det tar från det att man tryckt av tills det att kulan har lämnat pipan. Och pga av gasfjädern inte skruvar sig som en vanlig fjäder gör när den komprimeras så blir geväret också mer lättskjutet. Lägg också till att dom är trevligare att spänna upp och att dom kan vara uppspända för ganska långa perioder. Så det är inte så konstigt att Theoben's gevär har hamnat bland den lyxigaste klassen av luftgevär. Grain: measure of weight gr per pound. Metric: Gram (G) 1 gr = g The smallest unit of the British and U.S. system of weights. One-pound avoirdupois equals 7,000 grains. Swaged impressions or cuts spiraled through a bore to rotate projectiles. The distribution of bullets on a target fired with a single aiming point and sight setting. Group size is expressed as the distance between centers of the farthest holes and is most easily determined by measuring the extreme spread from outside to outside and subtracting one bullet diameter. The height of a bullet from its shoulder to the tip of its point The fit of a cartridge in a chamber measured as the distance from breech face to that part of the chamber, which stops the cases forward movement. Insufficient headspace hinders complete chambering; excessive headspace permits case stretching or separation. Changing the point of aim either above or below of the target (without adjusting the sights) to adjust for the trajectory of the pellet. A type of bullet with a hollow cavity formed into its nose, designed to expand when it hits a target. The use of hollow points is banned in international warfare by the Hague Convention of 1899 (NOT the Geneva Convention, which covers the use of poison gases and treatment of POWs.) Abbreviated as "HP."
