SUNET has signed a contract for a 8 to 12 years lease of dark fiber from TDC Song, which is becoming our only supplier of fiber for the whole network Using several subcontractors. Some details: Wide area network between PoPs 7 663 km of dark fiber, in 46 sections Local loops from PoPs to universities 94 dark fiber connections 3 x 2,5 Gbit/s connections (due to cost constraints) 2 x Visby, 1 x Kiruna
3 systems North North, West and South 2 networks per system Red and Green West Redundancy on layer 3 Special solutions: Kiruna ( Blue network ) South One optical system (capable of 10 Gbit/s) + leased OC48 Visby 2 * leased OC48.
Different customer (university) types: Type A: Large university 2 * 10GE as access, with possibility for p2p lambdas. Type B: Smaller university 2 * GE as access. Will keep their Cisco 10720s Type C: Kiruna (due to technical reasons) One optical path (as for type A), with leased 2,5G lambda as backup. Type D: Visby (due to technical reasons) Two leased 2,5G lambdas. Will keep the Cisco 10720s.
Preferably no regeneration on 10G network. 40G capable Transparent traversal (not using transponders) between the different networks. LDGE Low Density Gigabit Ethernet Possibility to provide GE connections everywhere p2p capabilities 40G (later), 10GE, 2.5G, 1GE and possibly FC.

&, Every type A customer will be connected with two CN4350 as a layer-2 Ethernet switch with DWDM functionality, using a 10 Gbit/s connection, transported transparent over the DWDM network into the central router in Stockholm. Each Ethernet connection can be seen as an extension of the LAN into to the central router. Day one, there will be 1 slot with a DWDM card for connection to the CN4200, 1 slot for 10 GE to the redundant 4350. Also 1 slot for the 10 GE and 1 slot for the 8 port 1 GE connection for customer LAN equipment. The total backplane capacity of the Ciena CN 4350 is 80 Gbit/s non blocking. Om ni har lokal utrustning som är kapabel till 10 Gbit/sek, men inte kan köra full BGP: Använd logisk router i centrala klustret och kör 10 Gbit/sek till er egen utrustning från CN4350. Om ni har lokal utrustning som kan 10 Gbit/sek och full BGP: Använd den (logisk router behövs inte). Migrering mellan dessa varianter är möjlig.
