Children's Literature, 7,5 hp. 2. The Transformation of the Characters in Children's Books, 7,5 hp. The first module includes an orientation and a widened reading experience of the literary genres that are essential for children between ages 1-12 years. The course offers tools to, in an adequat way, analyze the role of literature in modern children's culture, as well as knowledge about didactical questions within the field of study and different ways to deal with them. The children's book is studied from a language development point-of-view from board books and rhymes to lyric and complex children's book. The picture book and the function of the picture in children's literature as well as the narrative features of the genres in question is discussed. The second module deals with the intermediate transformation of the characters in the children's books in modern children's culture (ex. from saga to children's film, from poem to computorgame, from picture book to toy). A didactical perspective is integrated. Visits for purposes of study is included. The course offers a theoretical basis for pedagogical work and connect with current research within all fields of study in connection to the course. - identify and account for the distinctive genres, theemes, motives and narrative features in the children s book - in a basic way analyze prose and lyric for children - from different point-of-views discuss literary texts for children - identify and discuss the intermediate transformations of the characters in the children s books in modern children s culture - complete an individual work Education The form and extent of the education applied, could be adjusted to both the number of the attending students as well as the economical situation at the department. Forms of examination a. The examination is done during the course both orally and in writing. In part through the student s active participation during lessons and seminars, in part through written tasks and/or in an orally given account of different tasks. b. Grades are given according to a criterion referenced seven-point scale: A = Excellent B = Very Good C = Good D = Satisfactory E = Adequate Fx = Insufficient F = Fail c. The grading criteria for this course are to be distributed at the beginning of the course. d. In order to obtain at least a grade of E, a student who has received an F or Fx has the right to go through an additional four tests provided the course is still offered. A student who has received a grade of E or higher may not take the test again in order to get a higher grade. A student who has received the grade of Fx or F twice on a given test and by the same examiner can, on application, be granted a new examiner, unless there are specific reasons against it.
