A complementary aim of all Humanities courses is to develop the ability to use the Swedish language correctly in speech and writing.
Course contents Module 1. Introduction (5 p) The module teaches the terminology used in literary studies and in particular the terminology that occurs in the literary study of children s literature. In addition the module provides an orientation in the different forms of criticism and current research. The module also includes the close study of a number of texts. Module 2. The History of Children s Literature (5 p) The module teaches how children s literature grows from different historical, pedagogical and literary conditions and becomes established as a cultural factor. Children s reading is placed in a wider context in which children s culture and children s basic living conditions and needs are discussed. The module also includes the close study of a number of texts. Module 3. Children s Literature Today (5 p) The module teaches how children s literature developed after the Second World War and includes the close study of a number of texts. New forms such as comics, mass market literature and adaptions for the screen are considered. Module 4. Project Work (5 p) The module gives the students a deeper knowledge of some special area within the field of children s literature. The independent study is carried out as a close study of literary texts or as a field study associated with a school, library or some other place where the students may subsequently work professionally. The study is presented as an essay or in some other form in agreement with the lecturer. 2 Teaching methods Assessment methods Grades Study certificate Credit overlap The teaching consists of seminars and lectures on campus as well as distance learning in the form of Internet-based tasks. The examination can consist of assignments or tests but also of continuous assessment in the form of papers and oral presentations. One of the following grades is given: Väl godkänd, Godkänd, Underkänd (Pass with Distinction, Pass, Fail). In addition, ECTS-grades are awarded.. Students who receive a passing grade in the course are entitled to a course certificate upon request. Module 1 may be studied as a single subject course with the course code: LIA 133.
