3. Introduction Thank you for choosing the Multibox PRO, a quality product developed and manufactured by A2B Electronics. The Multibox PRO is a unique solution that allows you to watch digital television on all connected TV sets in a antenna network. The Multibox PRO receives all terrestrial free-to-air programs, and re-transmits 3 programs simultaneously to all TV sets in the network. Multibox Pro is a very compact unit with functions that are unique. Multibox Pro include tuners for reception of two muxes and three MPEG decoders for decoding three programs at the same time. There are three VSB-modulators inbuilt with NICAM stereo sound and these modulators can be individually set to a channel between 47 to 860 MHz. The output level of each modulator is up to 100 dbuv. A2B Electronics also offers other products if your network is smaller or larger than the size of network that the Multibox PRO is made for. The Multibox is made for single homes or really small networks. The Multibox has DSB-modulators, lower output signal levels but except this it is very similar to Multibox PRO. The E-series is a modular system made for big networks where high reliability and compability is important. In the E-series there are modules for analogue, DVB-T, DVB-S and DVB-C signals. These modules can handle several transmission and receiving standards. 4. Info about digital terrestrial television Today there are many digital terrestrial channels available, that are broadcasted free to air. The free-to-air channels are transmitted in muxes. A mux (or multiplex) is a package of channels that are transmitted on the same frequency. Each mux contains from 4 to a number of channels. Frequently one mux will contain both free to air and pay TV channels. The Multibox PRO receives transmissions from 2 muxes, and re-transmits 3 of the free-to-air channels in analogue with NICAM stereo to all connected receivers (TV-sets, VCR s etc.) There is also a UHF loop through of the digital muxes, which makes it possible to connect a Set Top Box (STB) for Pay-TV after the Multibox PRO. For more information please refer to www.a2b.se. 5. Mounting the Multibox PRO The Multibox PRO should be mounted correctly to ensure excellent performance over a long period of time. Please note that it is important to mount the Multibox PRO vertically for correct airflow. Attach the Multibox PRO to a suitable surface using the holes on the back side. We recommend that you use the attached drilling pattern for drilling, and use 2 screws. As an alternative it is possible to mount the Multibox PRO in a 19 inch 6 HE rack box. To do this you need a Front Panel Kit and a EBU-200 rack. See Chapter 10 Accessories. 5 English

7. Installation 7.1 Installation in a MATV network The Multibox PRO should be connected as close as possible after the aerial alternative after an antenna-amplifier if necessary (if for an example there is very long cable from the aerial or the antenna signal is low). The output level from a Multibox PRO is relatively high (adjustable appr. 80-100dBuV) and because of that it is not necessary to have any extra amplifier if it is a relatively small network the installation should taken place into. TV TV TV TV 7.2 Automatic installation and channel search The Multibox PRO will automatically start a channel search when it is connected to an aerial and the power is switched on (power cable inserted). The Multibox PRO will search for the strongest transmissions, and after that it will start transmitting one of the free channels and put the first found program according to the table below: Output In menu Channel Frequency Channel 1 S11 231,25 MHz Channel 2 S13 245,25 MHz Channel 3 S16 266,25 MHz To be able to see this you have to connect a measurement instrument with analogue display and tuned to S11 (231,25MHz) or a portable TV set *) to the output of the Multibox PRO. The channel search takes about 60 seconds. When the channel search is ready, you will be asked if you want to complete the channel search and you will see how many programs the Multibox PRO found. Once the channel search on the Multibox PRO is complete and output channels has been set, you will need to do a channel search on the connected TV sets and VCRs. Many TV sets have an automatic channel search facility - for more information please refer to the TV and VCR User manuals. Channels coming from the Multibox PRO will be highlighted by a text box with Multibox 1, Multibox 2 and Multibox 3 in the upper right corner of TV screen. This text box will disappear automatically after 8 hours. You can also remove the text box manually via the menu system of the Multibox PRO, see Chapter 8 Menu settings, for more information. *) You have to attenuate the signal if using a TV set 7 English

8. Menu settings The Multibox PRO has a menu system for changing settings and functionality. The menus are shown on the channel at the frequency S11. Connect a analogue measurement instrument or a TV *) tuned to S11 (231,25MHz)and press the OK button on the Multibox PRO(see Chapter 6 Connectors and buttons) to display the menus. The picture to the right shows the main menu. Use the arrow up and arrow down buttons on the Multibox PRO to navigate the menus. Exit the menu by moving the indicator to Return in menu and then press the OK button. Also use the OK button to do a choice in menus. 8.1 Basic settings In the basic settings you can find information about your Multibox PRO, choose what programs are transmitted by the Multibox PRO, and start a new channel search. 8.1.1 Information If you chose Information in menu the box displays Hardware version, Software version and Serial number of your Multibox PRO. 8.1.2 Choosing channels (Channel 1, 2, 3) This menu is used for selecting which digital television channels are transmitted by the Multibox PRO on Channels 1, 2 and 3. Move the indicator (using the arrow buttons) to the Channel you want to change. Press the OK button to show all the digital television channels. Select the digital television channel by using arrow buttons and press the OK button again. 8.1.3 Channel search The first time the Multibox PRO is installed it will do an automatic channel search to tune in the free channels. A new channel search can be done in the main menu, for example if you take the Multibox PRO to a new location. Connect the TV aerial before starting the channel search. To follow the channel search process connect a TV set *) or a measurement instrument tuned to channel S11. *) You have to attenuate the signal if using a TV set 8 English

During the channel search all the signals that come from the aerial are shown at the bottom of the screen by individual channels (frequencies) and signal strength. When the Multibox PRO identifies them as different digital muxes the indicators turns to different colours depending on the status of the muxes. The muxes with free to air channels have green, yellow or red indicators, depending on the signal quality, and the muxes with only Pay TV channels have pink indicators. Analogue signals will be displayed as Black bars. Please refer to Chapter 8.2 Advanced Installation, for more information about signal quality and how to adjust the TV aerial. All the free channels that are received and identified are displayed in the background. 8.1.4 National This menu is used to change the country settings. You can choose your preferences for subtitling, audio language, channel search, menu language and presets. 8.1.5 National subtitling Use this menu to set your preferences for subtitling. It is possible to set the type of subtitling, choose the subtitle language and select between DVB-T or Tele- Text subtitling, and set the teletext character set. This menu can also be used to switch subtitling on or off. 8.1.5.1 Type Use this menu to choose between normal subtitling or special subtitling for the hearing impaired. This offers enlarged subtitles and colour coded text. Alternatively all the subtitling can be switched off. The Multibox PRO is preset to Normal. 8.1.5.2 Priority Subtitling can be transmitted in different formats; via Teletext subtitling or DVB subtitling. The format is automatically selected by the Multibox PRO. Sometimes both formats are transmitted and the Multibox PRO then automatically chooses the format according to the priority set here. If you have any problems with the subtitling you can make changes here. 9 English

8.1.6 National - language This menu is used to set your preference for audio language, where a TV program is broadcast in more than 1 language. 8.1.7 National channel search target Use this menu to choose between a country specific channel search or a general channel search. 8.1.8 National menu language This menu is used to set your preference for the language used in all the Menus in the Multibox PRO. 8.1.9 National presets Use this menu to automatically select subtitling, audio language, channel search target and menu language by your country preference. 8.2 Advanced settings In the advanced settings menu you will find settings for Aspect ratio (picture format), Output channels, Quality, AUTO MUX search and Channel indicator. 10 English

8.2.1 Aspect ratio (Picture format) The picture format can be set to 4:3 (Letterbox)or 16:9 (Anamorphic). If the main TV is 4:3 choose 4:3 to watch 4:3 programs in full screen and widescreen programmes (16:9) in the letterbox format where the full width of the picture is shown and the top and bottom of the picture are black. Choose 16:9 if the main TV is widescreen to watch 16:9 programmes in full screen. 8.2.2 Output channels Use this menu to choose the output channels for the Multibox PRO. It s possible to chose all channels between 47 to 860MHz (E2 to E69). After the automatic installation you will find the preset channels on output channels S11, S13 and S16 respectively. 8.2.3 UHF Loop Through UHF Loop Through can be switched On or Off. If you want it On or Off depends of the kind of installation you will choose. If you install the Multibox PRO together with a MUX signal filter or process or you shall choose the UHF Loop Through to be switched Off. If you want all UHF signals to pass through you shall choose the UHF Loop Through to be switched On. 8.2.4 Quality This menu is used to test the signal quality and the aerial reception quality. It may be necessary to adjust or upgrade the TV aerial to ensure good picture and sound on all channels. For more information see Chapter 8.2.4.1 Reception. The Multibox PRO has an inbuilt spectrum analyser to help optimise the aerial installation. For more information see Chapter 8.2.4.2 Antenna Quality. 11 English

8.2.4.1 Reception Use this menu to measure the reception quality of each channel. If these are not optimal it is possible that the picture and sound quality will deteriorate in poor Reception conditions and it may be necessary to adjust the aerial or change to aerial with better performance. The information refers to the 2 installed muxes for the 3 channels. The menu shows the channels numbers and frequencies of the 2 installed muxes. Good reception quality requires correct strength of the incoming signal. For more information on the optimal signal strength see Chapter 8.2.4.2 Antenna Signal. It may be necessary to adjust the aerial for optimal signal strength. The signal quality C/N (Carrier to Noise) value is a measurement of the relationship between the aerial signal and disturbance in the channel. This should be higher than 20 db. The BER (Bit Error Rate) measures the number of ratio of the number of faulty bits received to the total number of bits received. The BER should be as low as possible and less than 2.00E-4 (2*10-4) to ensure good quality picture and sound. If all the parameters for the incoming signal are good but there are still problems with the picture or sound quality it is likely that there is a problem with the cable in the network or the TV outlet. 8.2.4.2 Antenna quality The Multibox has an inbuilt spectrum analyser. This shows the level of the incoming signals on the UHF band (channels 21-69, 470-862 MHz). The picture to the right shows the signal level of the incoming channels. The chosen muxes for the installed channels are green. The recommended level for the incoming channels is between 40 dbµv and 70 dbµv (between the 2 red horizontal lines). Connect your measurement instrument and make sure that the signal level is between 40-70 dbuv. Optimal signal level is in middle of that window (50-60dBuV). You can also check that the green bars are between the 2 red horizontal lines. If this not the case it may be necessary to adjust or upgrade the TV aerial or install an Antenna Amplifier. More technical information about the transmissions you will find at the website of the company that is responsible for the digital transmissions. 12 English

8.2.5 Auto mux search The Auto mux search is preset to On. This means that The Multibox PRO will automatically search for a tuned in Mux if the Mux is moved to a new frequency. 8.2.6 Channel indicator The Multibox PRO Channel indicator can be switched between on and off. When the channel indicator is on, a text box with Multibox 1 for channel 1, Multibox 2 for channel 2 and Multibox 3 for channel 3 will be Shown in the upper right corner of the picture. After the first installation the channel indicator is automatically switched on for 8 hours to make it easier to do a channel search on connected TV sets and VCR:s. During normal operation, the channel indicator is Off. 9. Multiple installation 9.1 Installation of multiple Multibox PRO You can link from two up to five Multibox PRO in to a network to be able to see up to 15 free channels from them. To link 2 Multibox PRO: Install the first Multibox PRO Change output channels to other frequencies than S11, S13 and S16 Install next Multibox PRO Link the two Multibox PRO together with a combiner and a splitter NOTE! If the UHF Loop Trough is used, make sure that this is activated in only one of the linked Multibox PRO. 9.2 Connecting a Set-Top-Box in a network with the Multibox PRO If the UHF Loop Through is activated in the Multibox PRO it will be possible to connect a digital Set Top Box (STB) to any TV outlet in the network to watch all transmitted digital terrestrial channels that is received in the UHF frequency band. This means that the connected households are able to watch the Pay TV channels with a STB. 13 English

3. Introduktion Tack för att ni har valt en produkt från A2B Electronics. Multibox PROen är en unik lösning för att kunna erbjuda fortsatt TV-tittande på de alla sina TV-apparater som är inkopplade till centralantenn-nätet även efter att de analoga sändningarna har stängts av. Multibox PRO kan ta emot samtliga fria digitala marksända kanaler, men är förinställd för att automatiskt ta emot SVT1, SVT2 och TV4 och övriga fria kanaler kan väljas i menyerna som presenteras via den inkopplade TV-apparaten. Multibox Pro har en mycket kompakt uppbyggnad, men har genom mycket hög integration en funktionalitet som är unik. Multibox Pro innehåller tuners för mottagning av 2 muxar samtidigt och 3 MPEG dekodrar för samtidig avkodning av 3 program. Multiboxen har 3 grannkanaldugliga utkanaler med NICAM stereo som är helt individuellt valbara mellan 47-860 MHz och utnivån är upp till 100 dbuv. A2B Electronics kan även erbjuda andra produkter för krav där storleken på nätverket är mindre eller större än de som Multibox Pro är avsedd för. Multibox är anpassad för villor och riktigt små nät och tar emot 3 digitala marksända program och omvandlar dessa till analoga signaler. E-serien är ett modulärt system avpassat för stora nät där driftsäkerhet och kompatibilitet är avgörande. E-serien har funktioner för omvandling från digitalt till analogt samt digitalt till digitalt och tar emot de flesta sändningsstandarder och hanterar även de flesta utsändningsstandarder. 4. Information om Digital-TV-sändningar Idag sänds ett antal minst 6 fria kanaler digitalt i marknätet: (SVT1, SVT2, TV4, SVT24, Barn/Kunskapskanalen, samt SVT Extra, TV6, Aftonbladet m fl.). De fria kanalerna sänds i 2 st muxar*, samtliga SVT s kanaler i mux 1, och TV4 i mux 2. Totalt finns det 5 muxar, och betalkanalerna sänds i mux 2 mux 5. Multibox PRO tar emot digitala sändningar från 2 muxar, och sänder ut 3 av de fria kanalerna analogt med NICAM stereo till alla anslutna mottagare (TV-apparater, videobandspelare etc.). Samtliga digitala signaler kan också sändas också vidare genom Multibox PRO (UHF Loop Through)en, vilket medför att man i nätet efter en Multibox PROen kan koppla in en digitalbox för övriga betalkanaler. I varje mux sänds f.n. sex till nio program 5. Montering av Multibox PRO Multibox Pro behöver monteras på ett korrekt sätt för att man skall bibehålla en god mottagningskvalitet över tid. Det är viktigt att Multibox PRO monteras stående för att korrekt luftcirkulation skall erhållas. Multibox Pro fästes genom att hängas på de på baksidan utstansade hålen. Med den medföljande borrmallen är det enkelt att förborra, i vägg eller på annan avpassad plats, för skruvarna. Ett alternativt monteringssätt är att sätta enheten i ett 19 6HE rack. Till detta behövs en frontpanel (tillbehör se avsnitt 10) samt ett rack EBU-200 (tillbehör se Kapitel 10). 22 Svenska

Installation 7.1 Installation i TV centralantenn-nät Multibox PRO kopplas in direkt efter TV-antennen, alternativt via antennförstärkare om antennkabeln är väldigt lång eller antenn-signalen är svag. Då signalnivån ut från en Multibox PRO är relativt hög (justerbar 80-100dBuV) behövs i regel ingen förstärkare efter Multibox PRO om den installeras i ett mindre nät. TV TV Multibox PRO Fördelare TV TV 7.2 Automatisk installation och kanalsökning Säkerställ att antennsignalen är ansluten innan nätsladden kopplas in. När Multibox PRO har startats gör enheten en automatisk kanalsökning. Multibox PRO söker upp sändarna med bäst mottagning och lägger ut SVT1, SVT2 och TV4 enligt tabellen nedan: Program Kanal Frekvens SVT1 S11 231,25 MHz SVT2 S13 245,25 MHz TV4 S16 266,25 MHz Kanalsökningen tar ca 60 sekunder. När kanalsökningen är klar, och om det finns signal på SVT1, SVT2 samt TV4, byter statuslampan på Multibox PRO färg från röd till grön. Efter att Multiboxens kanalsökning är klar och utkanaler är inställda behövs eventuellt en ny kanalsökning göras på de TV och videoapparater som är inkopplade (detta om kanalplanen har förändrats). För att du ska kunna se vilka kanaler som kommer från Multiboxen så visas texten Multibox 1, Multibox 2 och Multibox 3 i övre högra hörnet på anslutna TVapparater. Denna text försvinner automatiskt efter 8 timmars drift, och kan även tas bort via menysystemet, se avsnitt 8.2 Avancerade Inställningar. 24 Svenska

8. Menyinställningar Multibox PRO har ett menysystem för att ändra inställningar och funktionalitet. Man kommer åt menysystemet genom att ha första kanalen (S11) inställt på sitt mätinstrument och trycka på knappen OK på Multibox PRO (se avsnitt 6). På bilden till höger visas grundmenyn. Navigering i menyerna sker med pilknapparna. För att återgå till att titta på TV flyttar man indikator pilen till Tillbaka och trycker sedan på OK-knappen. 8.1 Grundinställningar I grundinställningarna kan man få information om din Multibox PRO, man kan välja vilka program som sänds från Multibox PRO en och man kan initiera en ny kanalsökning. 8.1.1 Information Informationsrutan visar vilken hårdvaruversion, mjukvaruversion samt serienummer som din Multibox PRO har. 8.1.2 Kanal 1 (2,3) I denna meny kan man välja vilket program som sänds ut på kanal 1 (resp. 2 och 3). Flytta indikator pilen med pilknapparna till den kanal du vill byta program på. Tryck på OK-knappen så visas vilka kanaler du kan välja mellan. Välj önskat program och tryck på OK. 8.1.3 Sök kanaler När Multibox PRO första gången sätts på görs en automatisk kanalsökning för att ställa in de förvalda kanalerna (SVT1, SVT2 och TV4). Man kan senare, t.ex. om boxen skall användas i ett annat område, göra en ny kanalsökning via menyvalet Sök kanaler.innan kanalsökningen startas skall TV-antennen vara ansluten. Om ett anslutet mätinstrument eller en TV-apparat *) är förinställd på kanal S11(231,25 MHz) kan man då följa kanalsökningens process. *) Tänk på att dämpa signalen in på en TV-apparat 25 Svenska

Under kanalsökningen visas längst ner på bilden alla de insignaler som kommer in via antennen på de olika kanalerna (frekvenserna) med olika signalstyrkor. Om mottagaren kan identifiera dessa som olika digitala muxar, ändras färgen på indikeringen till grön och muxens nummer visas (se Kapitel 4 angående muxar). Mottagna muxar med fria kanaler indikeras med grönt, gult eller rött beroende på kvalitet, medan muxar med krypterade betalkanaler indikeras med rosa. Övriga signaler som ej identifieras visas med mörk färg. Mer information om denna mätning av antennsignalerna och optimering av antennen finns under menyn Avancerat och Kvalitet (se nedan). Samtliga frikanaler som tagits emot och identifieras visas också i bakgrunden. 8.1.4 Nationellt Denna meny används för att ändra nationella inställningar. Det finns förval för textning, ljudspråk, kanalsökning och menyspråk. 8.1.5 Nationellt textning I denna meny görs inställningar för textning. Textningsspråk kan ställas in, och man kan välja mellan DVB-T textning eller teletext. Det finns även inställning för vilken teckenuppsättning som ska användas. Vidare kan textningen slås på eller stängas av. 8.1.5.1 Typ I detta menyval kan man välja mellan normal programtextning och speciell för hörselskadade. Denna har utökad textning och färgkodad text. Dessutom kan all programtextning väljas bort. Grundinställningen är Normal. 8.1.5.2 Prioritet Programtextning kan sändas på olika sätt; via s.k. teletext subtitling eller DVB subtitling. Det använda systemet väljs automatiskt. Ibland sänds bägge typerna och Multibox PROen väljer då automatiskt i en prioritetsordning som väljs här.
