År 2009 påbörjade NHS en innovationsupphandling av utvecklingen av nya lösningar för att hantera multiresistenta bakterier i vården. Ett lösning var en maskin som scannar plasma (joniserad gas med mikrobiologiska egenskaper) över händerna. Systemet är snabbt, skonsamt mot huden och mycket mer effektivt på att döda bakterier. Det utvecklande företaget tilldelades först ett kontrakt för att bevisa genomförbarheten av konceptet och sedan ett kontrakt för att utveckla den slutliga produkten.
