Examinations... My Studies in Keele University as compared to Uppsala University is differed in a way that the courses goes parallel throughout the semester. I have studied four courses in one semester. Every course is arranged in lecture and tutorial, so it is important not to fall behind and in preparing for final exams. The instructors were also very nice that they try their best to help students in understanding their lectures. Orientation and reception 13. Tell us about how it was to arrive and settle in. When I arrived at the airport at the scheduled time, Keele University Meet & Greet Airport Collection service picked up all arriving international students by bus. From the day of arrival through the first week we got a plenty of information and it was a good opportunity to meet a lot of international students and create a contact. It was really nice. Accommodation 14. Describe your accommodation. What type of accommodation did you have, where you satisfied? Do you have any tips for future students? The accommodation which I got in the Horwood Hall of student residence is located near to most parts of lecture halls and offices. The room is a small studio with a bed, bookshelf, desk, chair and a wardrobe. I shared kitchen and bathroom and toilet with seven other men. 2 it is unlike student accommodations in Uppsala which is much enough better than keeles. However it didnt bother me as long as the duration of my study was only for one semester. Your finances 15. Describe the cost of living. Did you find CSN adequate? How was the rent in comparison to your rent in Uppsala? Did you undertake part-time work in addition to your studies? The rent is almost same with what I had in Uppsala but food stuffs are much cheaper in UK. CSN and Erasmus scholarship was perfectly adequate for the rent, food and other activities and I survived with it. Thus, there was no need to undertake any part-time work. Free time 16. What did you do in your free time? Did the university arrange any special activities? Where there any activities specifically for exchange students? Were you happy with what was on offer? I have travelled to Oxford city which is one of the trips arranged by the University. There are also many societies to participate in different activities in the Keele University, though it is a suburb. I participate weekly in the activities of Snapshot society and I liked it. And I also frequently spent my free time and meet some people in Newcastle and Stoke on Trent, cities close to Keele. In the Easter break time I have travelled throughout three European country with other international students and experienced a very memorable trip from that I have ever been before. Keele Universities meets my basic expectations. The courses that I have taken were instrumental in my future professional career as it adds depth to my skill and became a good chance to have an experience of different countries academic system and to build social network between varieties of people. In all aspects I am very glad that I made to come to Keele University. I recommend other students to make use of the exchange program as it is very helpful in both academic and personal development. Examinations... The differences between Uppsala University and Keele University are quite many. Firstly, you are going to study 4 courses simultaneously and write exams in every course during a tight time period, which I thought is harder than the system we have in Uppsala. I studied Economic modules (Asset Pricing, Price Theory, Households, Firms and Government and Markets and Hierarchies), courses which were on both level 1 (Swedish A) and 2 (Swedish B). The teachers were helpful although most of the study time were self-studies. Orientation and reception 13. Tell us about how it was to arrive and settle in. The transfer went smooth from Manchester Airport where the University had arranged a bus from the airport to campus. Everyone were very helpful! Accommodation 14. Describe your accommodation. What type of accommodation did you have, where you satisfied? Do you have any tips for future students? Standard accommodation, I lived in Horwood Hall which where a quite scruffy place to live but still okay. Did you undertake part-time work in addition to your studies? Student accommodation in Keele was similar to the price of what you had paid in Uppsala. When you are abroad you would like to see and do more stuff so you tend to spend more money. I did not have a part-time work. Free time 16. What did you do in your free time? Did the university arrange any special activities? Where there any activities specifically for exchange students? Were you happy with what was on offer? Some encounter trips, although it is easier and less expensive to go with your friends on the weekends. Your exchange on the whole 17. Please sum up your exchange experience. Examinations... På Keele University är kvaliteten på undervisningen rätt hög, lärarna är duktiga och de visar att de bryr sig. Detta är förväntat eftersom studenterna där betalar för utbildningen. Sättet att undervisa är väldigt likt det vi har i Uppsala på ingenjörsprogrammen: med föreläsningar, lektioner, inlämningar och tentor. Jag tog kurser på nivå 1 vilket gjorde att kraven och antalet undervisningstimmar var lägre än i Uppsala, detta gav mig lite mer fritid, vilket är uppskattat på ett utbyte. Orientation and reception 13. Tell us about how it was to arrive and settle in. Utbytesteamet på Keele, samt de studenter som engagerat sig i detta, var mycket duktiga. Jag kände mig väl omhändertagen när jag först kom dit, de hämtade oss på flygplatsen och campus kryllade av vänliga människor som hjälpte en med allt möjligt. Under utbytet anordnades flera utflykter runt om i England, som gav en chans att uppleva många delar av landet. Utbytesstudenter är lika välkomna som alla andra att gå med i sportsällskap och att engagera sig. Det gjorde att man lätt integrerades och fick många vänner, såväl utbytesstudenter som britter. 6 Accommodation 14. Describe your accommodation. What type of accommodation did you have, where you satisfied? Do you have any tips for future students? Jag bodde i en korridor på campus. Kvaliteten på boendet var inte den bästa och det tar en stund att ta sig till de stora städerna. Men däremot så bodde man väldigt nära vacker natur och undervisningslokalerna. Vi bodde blandat med britter och andra utbytesstudenter, det gav oss en chans att lära känna det landet vi bodde i samt andra länder över hela världen. Tips: Jag kan rekommendera att beställa hem varor om man bor på campus, det tar ca 20 min med buss till den närmsta affären och det kostar ungefär lika mycket att beställa hem. Lindsay Court är finast på campus men det kostar därefter. Se till att ha kvar bostaden över påsklovet, att packa ut och in grejer är väldigt omständigt. Man orkar sällan ta sig ut från campus, vilket kan bli lite enformigt. Men jag kan ändå rekommendera att bo på campus, som de flesta utbytesstudenter, pendlingstiderna kan bli mycket långa annars. Däremot så bor de äldre studenterna oftast i egna hus i de närbelägna städerna, det kan också vara en intressant upplevelse. Your finances 15. Describe the cost of living. Did you find CSN adequate? How was the rent in comparison to your rent in Uppsala? Did you undertake part-time work in addition to your studies? Boendekostnaden är högre än i Sverige, men i den ingick enkel städning. Matkostnaderna är ungefär lika. Jag klarade mig mer än väl på lån från CSN och Erasmus-bidrag, fastän jag rest mycket under utbytestiden. Free time 16. What did you do in your free time? Did the university arrange any special activities? Where there any activities specifically for exchange students? Were you happy with what was on offer? Det negativa med Keele är att det inte ligger i en stor stad, det gör att fritidsaktiviteterna kan vara begränsade. Däremot så finns det väldigt många sportsällskap och andra grupper att gå med i. Jag var med i vandrings och klättersällskapet, de ordnade många resor, regelbundna träningar och pubrundor. På Campus finns ett antal pubar och en stor klubb i deras kårhus. Vill man festa så finns det möjligheter. I den närmaste staden Newcastle-under-Lyme finns många bra restauranger och pubar. Jag kan rekommendera Hunter s Chicken på den lokala puben, Sneyd Arms i Keele Village, om man vill ha en stadig måltid. Gillar man att resa så är Keele rätt bra beläget, det tar ca 4h att resa till Skottland med tåg och 2-3h till London. Utbytesteamet anordnar dessutom bussresor, under terminen, till olika delar av landet, så som London, Oxford och Liverpool. Är man ett fan av fotboll ligger Keele närmast till Stoke-on-Trent, men också en timme från Liverpool, Manchester och Birmingham. För övrigt är naturen runt campus mycket fin och vill man se de senaste storfilmerna så finns en bra bio i närheten. Vetenskapsområdet för medicin och farmaci, Uppsala universitet Sida 240 av 261

Innan utbytet var jag lite orolig, eftersom jag inte riktigt visste vad som väntade. Men det behövde jag inte vara, tar man en sak i taget så löser sig det mesta. Att utmana sig själv till att åka på utbyte är ett mycket bra sätt att utvecklas. Jag är mycket nöjd med att åka på utbyte till England och Keele. Jag har verkligen vuxit som person, blivit mycket van vid att resa och framförallt fått många nya vänner från hela världen. Approval 18.
